You know you're getting old when...

After being pretty fit for most of my life, I had a long-term injury to my foot from running (partial achilles and posterior tibial tendon tear). My fitness took a nosedive, and I'm now around 10kg over my ideal weight

I still have occasional pain, but I'm starting to run again once a week for now and then hoping to slowly increase the load until I can comfortably run 5k non-stop.

I keep relatively fit otherwise. I take stairs 2 at a time, I try and balance on 1 leg when I'm putting socks and shoes on, and recently me and the missus have been walking in the evening and weekends. Last month we managed over 150km (including barefoot walking on sand) over the whole month. I also do single leg squats and calf raises to keep my leg strength up, and I'm starting to incorporate basic yoga into my day, even if it's just a quick 5-10 minute stretch before I get ready for work.

The biggest issue for me now is recovery takes longer.

It really is. I did right at the end of a 5 mile run just outside the hotel i was staying in. It just 'pinged' and i actually thought i trodden on somthing sharp. I hobbled up to my room and when I got my sock off I noticed a tiny bruise on the insde of my heel (pic below an hour after the injury as thecswelling kicked in).

It took me 9 months to get properly diagnosed after my first physio did more harm than good.

I eventually had a CT scan and was told I probably should have had surgery and been completely immobilised for 6 weeks.

Mine was a Tibialis Posterior tendon partial tear, but there are three tendons that can cause similar bruising if ruptured or torn, often referred to as 'Thom, Dick and Harry' (Tibialis Posterior, Flexor Ditoium Longus & Flexor  Hallucis Longus).

I also had a partial achilles tear. I think one led to the other but I don't know which went first.
