My dad used to get free tickets for the Opera House as he used to put up a poster in his shop. They'd send a poster and include a couple of tickets for the show. I can't remember any of those I went to, but the one I remember as definate as a rock gig was Queen in 1979. Awesome. Was always a massive fan.

A mate of mine used to live in Brighton many years ago(early 70`s), one night he went to a party and got talking to a bloke there, he said he always remembered this bloke because he was just pure charisma, even though he was unknown at the time he said you could just tell this guy was going to be a star no matter what because he just drew people in and had this incredible presence, his name was `Freddie`, he was looking for a suitable surname to go along with his musical career and asked him what he thought of the name `Freddie Sunshine`.

Years later he saw him on Top Of The Pops as the lead singer of Queen.

A few years later (July 1976) came out of a gig at the FTH and they were handing out leaflets for a gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall the next week by 2 bands we'd never heard of called the Sex Pistols & the Buzzcocks.

"Nah. Stupid name for a band. Don't fancy it." we said. Doh!

I admire your honesty PB. You must be the only gig going Mancunian of that era who I have ever heard admit to NOT being at the Pistols' gig!

The Charlatans gig won hands down though.

Motorhead in some old cattle market near stafford? cant really remember the details as I went with my older brother, all I know is I have never been able to hear properly since (PARDON) happy days!

Bad company played the hardrock on greatstone road, went to it great concert, my first gig was slade around 72, at free trade hall, supported by thin lizzie and suzie quatro
