Northumberland for great coastline. Shropshire for just nice countryside.

Neither are overrun with crowds.

Cornwall - the further south west the better.

Just avoid the area's (and probably time of year) that Citysmith has visited!

If not Gwynedd then for England I'd have to say The north of Scotland so I guess Sutherland , argyle , the western isles etc
