Your favourite county in England and Wales?

I think you should restyle yourself 'The Duke of Cumberland'. The Scots loved The Duke of Cumberland.
Hello, yes I'm aware of that former title, that was conferred upon junior members of the British Royal Family, named after the county of Cumberland. I awarded myself the new title for two reasons. One there isn't actually a Duke of Cumbria, and two, for climbing the 214 Wainright fells, twice.

This is the problem with Cumbria. On one hand you have the Wainwright and Wordsworth version, and on the other barrow, Workington, Whitehaven, and other depressing jam eater towns which might as well be on another planet.

Fair play, but I base my assessment on scenery eg the Fells, Lakes, Tarns, Streams, Rivers, Waterfalls, and hot Polish girls working in Keswick, as opposed to the Steptoe & Son style junk yard and overgrown garden next door in Bramhall, that I have to look at for the larger part of the year.

I base my assessment on being a jam eater from one of said chavs nuclear waste towns :-(

A couple have already mentioned Gwynedd and I'd like to third it. Spent last weekend in abersoch/aberdarron/llanbedrog and when the sun is shining there is no place íd rather be on this earth.
Rather than the A55 we drove home via Balla lake and some of the scenery is breathtaking. It reminded of the garden route in South Africa where a turner of a corner can bring a gasp.
I'm bîased I agree as a lifetime of holidaying in those parts has made it feel like a second home to me but when I hit the hill just before Pwllheli and see the St Tudwalls Islands at Abersoch I genuinely get a warm feeling. So.... Gwynedd
This all day long - sun always shines in Abersoch too!
