Your first City shirt

At the risk of sounding like an old fart, mine was the original black and red striped away shirt. My dad presented me on the morning of the 69 FA cup final with the full kit. Watched the game wearing it with my dad, uncle and grandad. 11 years old and was given my first taste of beer that day !

I got my first top about 1991, and loved it, but seem to have lost a few old shirts since moving house, i recall not getting it form the City Store, i got it from a shop on the corner of Maine Road, i was only about 8...

Probably like me you can remember your very first replica shirt. You can remember everything about tearing open the cellophane wrapping and hugging this wonderfully iconic piece of fabric to your chest, and sighing like a love-lorn schoolgirl with a crush on the current pop star of the day.

I remember I couldn't wait to put mine on and play with the other kids in the rec. I so wanted to be Mike Doyle it wasn't true.

Now all these years later, after decades and decades of abusing my system with beer and Indian takeaways and generally leading a slothful existence, the next shirt will have to be in comparable size to a marquee to fit my wonderfully bloated abdomen. But even though I'm fat and old I'm still looking forward to getting my new shirt. I just know I shall still feel the same sense of wonderment as I did when I was a boy.

Now only can i remember the thrill of it all,but i swear i can even remember the smell, and this was the early seventies ! i can even remember the badge,it came seperate from the shirt and my mum had to iron it on, belive it or not.The proud feeling that i had that first day i pulled it on has never left me

This beauty as modelled by Eric Nixon. He was my hero back then and I was over the moon when I got his replica kit for Christmas in 1987. Fast forward 21 years and he was a bit bemused when a drunkern Dubai Blue met him in the City pub over here after beating the rags 1-0 and reacted as though Colin the King himself had just walked through the door!!!
