I agree. Coventry City were robbed blind in the FA Cup semi-final by VAR against United a few years ago. Turns out the VAR ref had a picture of Old Trafford as his Facebook profile pic, so clearly he was deeply impartial. AI would get rid of such bias.

That's the chief benefit, I'd even have a roboref as soon as the tech was up to it.

The 2-2 was definitely a league game at Maine Road, and yes it was in the third flight (when Blackpool was the opening fixture), don't know about friendlies.

VAR is fine. A net positive, even. It's not come remotely close to ruining goals or killing the game

Football stats are fine. They're just statistics. Just because you don't know how to interpret them, and other people misinterpret them, doesn't make them bad. The xG stat is a revelation (when used correctly over longer periods)

I was at the 2-2 Maine Road league game in 1998 - I remember it pretty vividly because it was my second ever game and I'm pretty sure Goater and Allsopp scored the goals for us.

Ironically though, my first ever game was Chesterfield a few weeks earlier - Bradbury scored in that one, 1-1 bullet header. It was the first City goal I ever saw live. He instantly became my favourite player... but then I never saw him score another goal for us.
