your MOTM from today...

I am certain of it now. There is an Anti Yaya bias on bluemoon. About 40% of the danger inducing passes were made by Yaya. About 30% of shots on goal were taken by Yaya. Fo someone who has been pilloried for being terrible at headers. He won every single header he went up for in this game. Then he added 3 to 4 Yaya signatory runs, yet in the minds of most he was one of the poorer performers :? I am speechless.

However, Lescott and De Jong, the 2 architects of our continuously ponderous slow build up that allowed Reading to reset have been pretty much deemed to have a great game because they stopped a clearly toothless Reading buildup?!!

kebe was the only Reading player with the balls to make any sought of offensive foray, and Yes Lescott and Nige did a good job when they helped out to stop him. But here is a thought in the last 13 minutes in which Barry played he dispossessed 4 Reading attacks. I don't remember the name of any Reading player outside of their defenders and Kebe. They were that nondescript. Often impotent. If you want to ascribe that impotence to the great play of Nige and Jolley, feel free. But they were both mostly at fault for our ponderous play.

And that in my opinion makes them no where near the better players on the night.

For the first 30 mins Reading got a lot of space down the flanks and Micah in particular looked off but that was closed off and we started to assert but were uncomposed in their box.
Silva was MoM for me but Nige and SWP did well considering their absences.
Everybody did fairly well but let's give credit to Reading who gave their all and stopped us from looking slick.

Nigel, comfortably.

Nice cameo from Mario, i thought.

And he cleverly won the corner which resulted in the goal if i'm not wrong.

Micah, Yaya, Nigel and Lescott were all decent i thought.

Thats a strange phrase to use.
However, the reason he is getting flack is because his performances are less than inspiring and i think for many he's been a huge disappointment as he was one of the most eagerly desired signings.

Considering he's supposedly a 'midfield general' he is remarkably lightweight. He rarely supports the attack or helps the defence, his running off the ball is none existant and players waltz past him for fun.He shows little appetite for the battle and is often beaten in a challenge.

When given time he is capable of a decent pass, however, the occasional burst of speed aside, there's generally no urgency to his play, everything he does looks laboured.

I just can't see the value in this fella.

There are many a midfielder, playing for much lesser teams, who cost a fifth or sometimes a tenth of his price and are more,or at least equally, effective.

I hope it's simply an adjustment and/or fitness issue and the real Yaya makes an appearance next season.

MOM - Lescott.
