Your Opinion - A Better Bluemoon?

I back paying a small fee - the performance last night was horrendous.

Will ensure to a larger extent that the people posting here are true City fans also

I wouldn't pay to be honest. I don't think a lot of people who flippantly say they would, would either. It's not the norm to charge direct to the user for club football forums and I have a feeling a lot of the traffic would just shift elsewhere.

And people making out the rag infestation is a significant problem.....I don't see that at all. I can think of about maybe 3 or 4 posters I have suspicion of being covert rags out of 20,000. And openly wumming rags is much less of a problem since the 50 post rule.

I don't support a fee.

If it's necessary to reduce traffic, start by making it members only, as some football forums are. I have to say I have not noticed any slowness when I have been on here.

I wouldn't pay a fee either,i go on lots of forums and none have slow periods,so i can only guess its the phpbb software, which i doubt as a lot of popular forums use it,or your hosts, which means you either need to upgrade or change host.

We've had this discussion several times before and every time Ric has said he didn't want it to become subscriber only.

I like the fact that fans of other teams can come on here because we sometimes get sensible ones. And the guests are half the problem with speed and they wouldn't pay anyway. Make it so you have to pay to even see what the forum is like and you pretty much close it to new posters. A possible solution to this would be to force people to sign in to read the forum but I'm not in a position to say if that would significantly increase speed.

Keep it free.

if the speed problem of the forum is a money thing, how much would it cost to remedy

I spoke to Ric last night and he said that paying simply is not an option. He did agree that something needs to be done and that he and his team are trying to solve the issue asap. Let's just hope this gets done before the season kicks off sas Bluemoon will literally melt!!!

I can understand some people's rationale for wanting to pay or not to pay.

Can I suggest a loyalty discount for the long term or genuine poster (up to free). I'd prefer to not penalise the poster who has been here for years and postively contributed to and/or read many discussions.
why is it penalising the loyal poster, if hes loyal he would be glad to help make the site more efficent.......

Ric has already said that it ain't a hardware problem so throwing cash at it ain't going to fix it...

The site runs on a forum software called phpbb - not the most efficient when it comes to large sites but it can be made to run better, the trick is knowing how to tweak it.
Mmmm - my blog is due for an update so I might just write up a simple "how to speed up a web forum" article later today - although I know Ric is in a very similar job to me and already knows most if not all of it already...

This evening the forum has been going very slow. We were playing a pre season friendly in America and there was not that many people on Bluemoon, yet there were still issues. I know Ric has stated that he does not want people to have to pay to use this forum, but i am yet to come across a Bluemooner who would not pay a yearly subscription fee to ensure this site runs efficiently and effectively, to the best possible standard. If this was to be applied we would also kill two birds with one stone. Remember a few months back when a load of rags from SadCafe came on and just started making stuid posts and totally blocked up the forum, if they had to pay the subscription fee to be able to post, do you really think they would spend there money on a City forum - I think not. Im just after peoples opinion on this matter i have raised, would you object to paying if this was to come in? Simple answer so maybe the owner/creator can get the general idea of the posters on here and possibly take action. Something clearly needs to be done because i think we are a good bunch of fans who all voice our opinions, and largely all get on. I feel that if something isnt done ASAP then people will just go to another city forum which does not crash when anything of significant importance happens, or doesnt happen in tonights case. Your thoughs please.

rickmcfc.

I would pay an annual fee as would most genuine city fans...

I personally think we'd lose too many good users, and Blues, if we were to charge a fee. I would pay it, but that's because I could afford to, however I'm not totally sure all Blues are in the same boat. I'm certainly not in that God awful boat with all those people who feel everything on the internet should be free........that's bollocks.
