Your thoughts on Alex Ferguson as a manager

Massive twat.

But

Has to be admired for the way he sets his teams up over the years. He loses a guaranteed starter and the gash squad player comes in and performs. If his teams need the win they almost always force the goal or come extremely close. Last years squad paled in significance to ours yet pushed us very close. This year I thought they would be hammered by Chelsea/Arsenal as Arse pushed us very hard and Chelsea are the form league team yet the rags pull out wins. I know people will use the agenda card with regard to refs etc but the manager has engineered that over the years, using everything in his power for the win, questionable tactic but shows a huge desire to be the best to go that far. Just look at the squads, how many rag players would you take? 3/4 at most but they would happily swap, I'd imagine 6/7 of ours yet they are still there pushing for the title, some of this has to be down to a good manager.

Anyway bollocks to it I feel minging for saying that.

Will always be a **** in my eyes.

The one football thing I respect from him is his attacking mind (#derbyatetihadlastyearasside). Everybody and his mother were talking about their bad midfield and what he does - he buys the best striker in the league even if they didn't lack goals at all last season.

He knows he has problems in some positions but he is going for annulling that by overscoring teams and so far it looks good tactics.

The minute Clattenburg sent off Chelsea player, he sent Chicharito in to win the game.

I don't think he is tactical genius or innovator but he found a system that works and deals very well with that system for decades finding players that fit in it perfectly. Few mistakes, yes, but overall he did very good job.

Still think he is a twat cause only twat can spends his 70s traveling each 2 days instead of living a screamer with his family and all money he earned.

You put him in charge of Everton, Fulham, or another solidly mid-table club with no help from the refs or a massive budget, and I think you'd see how little he actually does.

Or Aberdeen, say? In 1978 he took over this small provincial club with a small budget and became the first manager to break the Glasgow stranglehold on Scottish football, winning three league titles, four Scottish cups, a Scottish league cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup, beating Real Madrid in the final.

So yeah, you'd definitely see how little he actually does.

If you compared Ferguson To Bob Paisley i would say Bob Paisley was the best of all time.Paisley didnt need as many favours from referees and he won more european cups 3 in 9 years as a manager

Bob Paisley gets my vote as well.

two Champions Leagues, two Cup Winners' Cups, two European Super Cups, one Intercontinental Cup and one World Club Cup...... 2 runners up champs league

Firstly, the Super Cup and Club World Cup are not hard trophies to win as they are one-off games usually against inferior opposition (ALWAYS against inferior opposition in the World Club Cup and 8 times out of 10 in the Super Cup if you win the CL). The Charity Shield can be harder to win, United beat LDU Quito of Ecuador last time they won the Club World Cup. Who? Exactly.

No matter how you spin it, Ferguson's record in the big one - the Champions League - is underwheming. He has managed England's biggest club for something like 26 years now and has had money basically from the off to spend such as the splurge on internationals in the late 80s (Pallister, Ince, Wallace, etc.). Both of his CL wins have been last minute things too (Solskjaer + the penalty lottery against Chelsea). I'm just saying that his tactics in Europe are not nearly as effective as in England and subsequently United - allegedly the biggest club in the world (in their own eyes) - have massively underachieved there on Ferguson's watch which is why.

Not many managers are given control of a top club for as long as Ferguson and still have equal or better records than him in Europe, which is why I say he has underachieved. Ancelotti for example, 2 Champions League trophies in 8 years at Milan. del Bosque, 2 Champions League trophies in 4 years at Real. Guardiola, 2 Champions League trophies in 4 years at Barca. Ferguson, 2 Champions League trophies in 26 years at United. Hence my original opinion, great domestic manager, not the greatest European manager.

To win the super cup/world club championship you have to win the champions league which is not easy.
We are not exactly skint are we, but we can`t cut it in europe.

On a separate point did paisley/fagan etc have the refs in there pocket in the 70`s and 80`s when liverpool where winning everything?

Probably lose top blue points for this. But in my opinion one of the greatest managers of all time, I do wonder that people genuinely think he 'bribes' the referee. That's just odd. Think the man is an utter **** but what he has done at the swamp is unbelievable considering. That team he had last year shouldn't of been near winning it. A **** yes, but also a fantastic manager who has to be admired. *Awaits abuse*

He's a driven man, a man who probably fears that the day he stops managing is the day he stops living- his experiences of Busby and Stein largely influence this- and he is the sorest of losers. As a British manager, he has no parallel. His construction and reconstruction of teams deserves respect, not even the grudging kind, but the fear by which he intimidates and galvanizes players, especially young, impressionable players, is indicative of an age which will pass with his retirement.

Journalists will likely judge him by the standards of today and tomorrow, particularly those reared in a world where football began in the 1990s, but they will do so unaware of how irrevocably the game has changed in his span. No manager will likely exert so much control at so big a club ever again, thus when his time does end, it will be felt in Old Trafford even more keenly than when Busby stood down in 1971.
