They’re not technically a Manchester band. They’re actually a Brummie band with a lead singer from near Northwich (born in Salford), who they actually formed as a band without (he came after formation). They were part of the Baggy scene and were obviously seen as a Madchester band. One thing I have noticed from this thread is that the Charlatans seem to be the most under rated out of all the bands listed. Not many putting them in their top 5. Yet if you assess their back catalogue they have far more quality songs than most who have been listed.

Although I personally still include them as a Manchester band because of the strong link to that Manchester scene.
The Hollies. There are not that many Manchester bands who are actually from Manchester. Out of the big bands, Oasis and the Smiths are the two that come to mind.
Yeh that was absolutely horrific. That first Northern Uproar album was pretty good. They did a single a few years ago that was pretty good as well.
Utterly tragic what happened to the original guitar player.
A great band, I’ve seen them live more times than I’ve seen any other band and Some Friendly, The Charlatans and Tellin Stories are incredible albums. However it was Oasis and Stone Roses that really got me into music so I can’t justify putting them higher than 3 in my listOne thing I have noticed from this thread is that the Charlatans seem to be the most under rated out of all the bands listed.
