Good band Dare, originally they had prof Brian Cox on keyboards think he was a near neighbour of Darren Wharton.
Not related to this thread really, but I watched the 99 Champions League final in the vault, in NH catholic club. I was only 20 at the time and gave it out something rotten to all the rags in that room for nearly all that match. When the paper boy scored the winner, I ended up on the bottom of an almighty pile on and was covered from head to toe in beer. I had fellas chucking pints all over me.Brian Cox lived on Burnley Lane in Chadderton (His parents still do) Daz was Alder Rd, Failsworth. (Now has a country house hotel/studio in North Wales) Dare's earliest gigs were at the Maple Leaf Squash Club on Broadway. Guitarist Vinny Burns was a local lad too, now lives in( Ashby de la Zouch)
Darren first played keyboards (alongside drummer John Wrigley) at Newton Heath Catholic Club at weekends, backing the 'turns' ... think Phoenix Nights for real. Also played similarly with a girl singer in the Tropicana nightclub on Oxford Rd. By day he demoed keys in Swans on Oldham St in town, which is where someone recommended him to Phil Lynott who wanted to add keys to TL. By the way, he was heavily into Jazz Funk back then, and took the piss out of us for loving rock, still having long hair etc ... ;-)
Simon Wright was first in Tora Tora, then A II Z, two almost made it hard rock band from Manc, (along with Fireclown, Rox and Silverwing (Macclesfield) before he went on to AC/DC, Dio, UFO, and others.
Sadly 16 pages in and no mention of Manchester's fines sons ... ALBERTOS Y LOST TRIOS PARANOIAS
did Harlem Spirit ever doing anything decent besides (the admittedly excellent) Dem a Sus? Genuine question, I'm not presuming the answerI am dumbfounded that the OP didn’t have Ed Banger & The Nosebleeds, Harlem Spirit or Sweet Sensation included in his list.
