Your top 5 Manchester bands/ solo artists are?

There are absolutely loads mate. Groups like Cotton Club will never get a mention but they made loads of tunes that got hammered in the clubs. Groups like Ruthless Rap Assassins, Alfie and Sub Sub made quality tunes.

Out of all the bands mentioned, I will never know how Puressence and The Chameleons were not huge
The list could have been at least 5X longer mate. I mentioned bands from greater Manchester area, big or small can be included.

I've seen the Chameleons, twice I think back in the day. Don't know much about Puressence but I know they made quite a few albums. As for bands not getting huge, I think it's only the Fact new fads were guirky and on a small indie label they stayed under mainstream radar. They were a fuckin' brilliant band with a unique sound. Saw them headline at Piece hall Halifax with a scrawny looking Jarvis Cocker fronting Pulp who were unknown back then. New Fads were a much better band, but that is my opinion of course.

Tim Burgess was born in Salford and the rest of the charlatans scattered around Staffordshire.

Mark Collins is from Manchester. He was in the Waltones before joining the Charlatans after Jon Baker left. Steve Harrisons record shop (Omega records) was in Northwich and that was the link between them all. Blunt, Brookes and Rob Collins were all from the Midlands
