Your top 5 Manchester bands/ solo artists are?

I like quite a lot the Smiths and Morrissey stuff. He's a brilliant lyricist IMO. It's just that I find some of the tracks and his dreary voice depressing and mundane. A bit like eating porridge everyday with a razer blade in my hand.

The Smiths produced some of the funniest songs ever to grace the world. As has Morrissey in hi solo years. Take That; Robbie - now there's something to truly get the razor blade out for.

Not even a mention yet of A Certain Ratio? Ahead of their time. I tried to upload Do the Du but failed.

Simon Wright lived in Failsworth along with Darren Wharton (Thin Lizzy). ; )
Auditioned for a band Simon drummed with when I was 15. It was in Ashton hence the link, didn't know he was from Failsworth. Got the gig but my dad wouldn't let me take it despite him being a muso himself. In hindsight, he was right but I was pissed off at the time.

Just seen that Darren Wharton is in Dare as well. Never heard of them personally. That's Mani, Simon Wright and Darren Wharton all from the same small area in Failsworth and all growing up at the same time. I wonder if I would have become a rock star if I stayed. ; )
