Your top 5 Manchester bands/ solo artists are?

Just seen that Darren Wharton is in Dare as well. Never heard of them personally. That's Mani, Simon Wright and Darren Wharton all from the same small area in Failsworth and all growing up at the same time. I wonder if I would have become a rock star if I stayed. ; )
Now you mention it you do look a bit like Barry Manilow mate; )

How could you leave out the great John Mayall. Born in Macclesfield, went to Manchester College of Art, lived a stones throw from Maine road, and played at the Twisted Wheel?
I would add Elkie Brooks and the hopelessly under rated 10cc. for my top 3.

We come from an amazing city. When you consider the relative population of the city of Manchester, our contributions to the world of popular culture are phenomenal. As Mancunians, we all feel it. It's in you. Growing up, you wanted to be a footballer or a musician. Long may it continue : )

As title says. You can include bands and solo artists from Gtr Manchester, and we're second only to London in amount of artists from one city.

Here's a list of more famous artists to choose from, but small bands that didn't make it big is ok, your choice. Quite an impressive list, some bands I've failed to mention. Sorry if your faves aren't on list.

10cc, 808 State The 1975, Audioweb Badly Drawn Boy, Beady Eye, Bee Gees, Black Grape, Blossoms, Elkie Brooks, Buzzcocks, Chameleons, Courteeners, Doves, Elbow, Freddie and the Dreamers, Liam Gallagher, Noel Gallagher, David Gray, Gary Barlow, Happy Mondays, Herman's Hermits, High Flying Birds, the Hollies, inpiral carpets, James, Joy Division, Lisa Stanfield, M People, Magazine, Morrissey, New Fast Automatic Daffodils, New Order, Northside, Oasis, Puressence, Railway Children, Sad Cafe, the Seahorses, Simply Rag, Slaughter and the Dogs, the Seahorses, Slow Readers Club, the Smiths, Take That, the Verve.

1 Stone Roses
2 Joy Division
3 Oasis
4 James
5 New Fads
I was just wondering who sold the most records out of all those Bands, I just read that the Bee gees sold 220 million albums worldwide, but I'm not sure you can call them a Manchester band.
They were born on the Isle of Man, and lived in Manchester a short time. They went to school in Queensland.

The Fall
Joy Division/ New Order
The Smiths
Buzzcocks
James

James would’ve been higher if they had called it a day after ‘Stripmine’.
Was hard to leave Happy Mondays, Black Grape and Marc Riley & The Creepers off the list. World of Twist and A Witness could’ve been contenders if they’d made more than one album.
