Yves Bissouma

I'm not sure Rodri/Dihno is a serious problem. I think we are good with those 2. Outside of CB and Goalie I think DM is the 3 most stable position on the squad. I'm comfortable with either playing.an oil tanker

Our Achilles isn't a DM issue. It's a style issue. We play a style that's Prone to counter attacks. It wouldn't matter who the DM was ( Ngolo Kante or Ndidi) we'd still be suspect on the counter. Coz we involve 7 players going forward consistently.

Agreed, our style does render us liable to the counter as we encourage the opposition to play to that strength. It would definitely help though if we had a player capable of covering the ground with speed in the centre of the park, rather than the turning circle of an oil tanker.

It might in certain situations. But on 4 v 3 counters, which is often what happens, speed of the DM isn't the issue. Spacing and movement by the opposition is the key.

When they do it well, we are at the mercy of individual brilliance by our defenders or Eddie.

No worries,we clearly see things differently.

The two next to the DM are also not mobile enough to get back into position when we lose the ball so high up the pitch (probably why it was working with Bernardo sitting next to either of them)

It's a big issue

One DM does not resolve the issue of giving the ball away when we are high up the pitch and have four runners attacking two defenders. The problem is not Fern or Rodri, it is the style of play that has brought us trophies, many of them, is vulnerable to fast counters when we are not sharp and when key players are missing. Nobody, Kante included, could deal with that. The games we lose, and we don't lose many, are consistently to deep-lying defences with rapid counter-attacks and it is why players like Kyle and Phil are so vital. Put away those early chances and it's a different matter.

unfortunately dinho looked his age yesterday and the ease that spurs went through our midfield was shocking! Bissouma would be such a clever signing currently but surely rodri has to go?

We can get away with playing like that if the defenders have the pace and/or discipline to run back. Walker and Zinchenko (who doesn't constantly give the ball away like Mendy does) will make a big difference from yesterday.

Rodri goes nowhere, Laporte, Bernardo and maybe Sterling or Mahrez could all go.

Maybe Kane won't be the end of our business, in the words of our Chairman, time to get creative.

I’m not Rodri’s biggest fan but maybe this is a bit knee-jerk, based on a performance he wasn’t even involved in? I agree Bissouma would be a good signing but if we’re going to set up with 1 in midfield against good counter-attacking teams yesterday is liable to happen. I did think the signing of Grealish, although a great player, gave us less quality possession than Bernardo if that’s who he’s been brought in for. As a result I thought we might go with 2 dms more often. It wouldn’t have mattered who the 1 was yesterday, they’d have still run through our midfield.

sorry mate i meant if (and its obviously a huge if) we went for Bissouma then hes coming in to play as dinho will stay and Rodri cost £63m?

No worries mate but I don’t think Rodri’s leaving. Not sure if the there’s any substance to this thread now other than yesterday’s result and Bissouma being a good player. You would think any monies left would be going on a striker.

There’s two options
1- change the style to accommodate the players
2- bring in the player to fit the style .

The world knows that pep is not going to change his style anytime soon , that means you can cross off the first option.

Pep did bring in a player to fit the his style, Rodri. Like how he brought Busquets into the team at Barcelona, or signed Xabi Alonso to do that job at Bayern, or attempted to buy Jorginho to play that role before we got Rodri.

Rodri is the type of DM Pep likes.

I like the look of Bissoma and I am surprised no club has bid for him yet. He certainly would be a decent addition to our squad imo, but Rodri is not leaving so it is not happening this year

I think we should seriously look at this. Pep seems to have misgivings about Rodri and Fern is aging. he can't go on forever. We will need to replace Fern soon so if the right player comes along in this position we should move for them. I can only see this happening though if Kane move falls down.

We'll sign nobody else if the Kane transfer goes tits up mate

What misgivings do you think Pep has about Rodri, given he has played more minutes than any other outfield player over the last two seasons?
