Zabaleta Out? Right back discussion {merged}

Hamstring tears usually 4-6 weeks depending on the severity.
Has it been confirmed it's a tear and not a strain? obviously only a couple of weeks for a strain but no point in rushing him back half fit (which we haven't this year). He didn't look too bad when he went off so hopefully the latter.

Has to be Milner for me but MP will make his decision based on what he thinks is best. I know he doesn't like to play them out of position but we're down to the EDS lads for RB's. Be interesting if our training spy's can let us know if Facey trains with the 1st team squad, might be a clue!

Huge blow losing Richards , Zabba and Kun for at least 6 weeks each in consecutive matches.

Will really test the resolve and depth of the club over Dec /Jan and perhaps even early Feb.

Hopefully in Zabba's case he can make a quick recovery and its only a strain and he will be back before the middle of Jan but if not and irrespective of what happens injury wise we have to plough more quality and value for money resources into strength and conditioning ( legally of course ).

Sports science is critical now as the game speeds up and soft tissue injuries become more frequent and impact injuries become less frequent.

Over hear Essendon FC ploughed in relative terms a lot of money into the same issue they had but went overboard with the supplement program and have paid the price for doing so.

In terms of soft tissue injuries they have got on top of what was becoming an epidemic at the club.

Sometimes you just have to look at those top players that don't get soft tissue injuries and replicate the way they go about playing their football as best as is practicable.

F*** me there is some negative stuff on this thread. Given our resources I don't think we should be moaning!
Every team will have injury issues. We were lucky during our title winning season, but we now have a better squad. We've done well without the catastrophic losses of Vinny, Silva and Aguero as well as somewhat surviving without Yaya during African Cup.
It's not ideal but we need to knuckle down and get on with it. There may even be a silver lining?

Its all about the club doing what it can to minimise these injuries BS.

No side can afford to have its best players off the scene for too long and expect to play to their potential.

It hurt our campaign last season and will do so again this season.

I don't think luck comes into it as much as you may think.

Good sports science and being at the cutting edge of risk management is what it is all about when it comes to injuries and how you recover from them.

Its well known at least in AFL circles that those clubs with the best doctors and best preventative measures in place and instructing players especially those who are more soft tissue injury prone as to how better manage your body on match day and during the match and after the match etc.

There are too many soft tissue injuries at this club this season to dismiss it as just bad luck as opposed to good luck when they don't occur.

This is something I've been saying for a while to be honest, I have a lot of hamstring problems myself when I play going back to one horrific tear when I was a teenager and the sports science dep in uni actually went as far (on top of nutrition, specialised warm ups, focused training on strengthening the healthy tissue left in the muscle) as to regulate my running style when I was playing, by not letting me jog slowly (the tear was right above the knee and heavy impacts weren't doing it any good) and forbidding me to sprint full on. slowed me down, but I wasn't going off 30 mins into every match with strains and minor tears. now if a small university can do that, surely the club can do something.

-- Thu Dec 19, 2013 10:56 am --

Dougie Macion your time has arrived young man!!!
He cant hear you all the way over there in rome.

Do our players take yoga classes? Giggs swears by it and I can see the logic in that the muscle tissue would be stretched and stop them tightening up as easily. Would be interesting to hear if the club insists on yoga? If not, they should be looking into it when you see the type of injuries being suffered in a regular basis.
