Zinchenko Signed (official)

Makes sense - he can play left back, left wing, right wing, #10 or as a central midfielder.

But gives us serious problems squad wise. Assuming we get the names we are linked with (Stones, Rulli, Sané, Peres) and the players expected leave (Kolarov, Willy, Zaba)

We've got 3 too many foreign players by my count.

Who are the 'foreign' players by your reckoning in the squad ?

Bony, Yaya and one other ?

I was thinking for the league. Thought that's different? Happy to be corrected though.

In the PL players under 21 simply don't have to be registered full stop. For the CL they need to have been trained at the club for 3 years prior to their 21st birthday before they can be considered h/g and therefore exempt from registration. Zinchenko would have to be registered in the CL like Kelechi was last season.

As I thought cheers.

Not exactly - players under 21 have to be at a club for 2 years before they qualify for the u21 (B) List and don't need to be registered.

Homegrown and club trained status is completely separate to the u21 list. Homegrown players are registered, just as Homegrown players. You get 4 club trained HG slots, 4 association trained slots and 17 foreign player slots.

I have the squad looking something like this at the moment:

Homegrown
1 Hart
2 Sterling
3 Delph
4 Clichy

Foreign
1 Caballero or Rulli
2 Kompany
3 Stones - we've already used 4 association HG slots.
4 Mangala
5 Otamendi
6 Sagna
7 Bruno Peres or Zabaleta
8 Zinchencko
9 Fernando
10 Nasri
11 Gundogan
12 Silva
13 Fernandinho
14 Touré
15 Aguero
16 De Bruyne
17 Nolito
-----
18 Navas
19 Iheanacho
20 Sane

So 3 need to go from that list.

Kelechi now club trained no ?

It's really stupid, but this is how it works out:

This season he is 19, but doesn't qualify for the u21 list. Has to be a foreign player.

Next season he is 20 but does qualify for the u21 list (because he's been here for more than 2 years.) so isn't registered.

18/19 he is 21 and qualifies as club trained, so he's registered as a Club trained HG player.

Very happy with this signing. Exactly what we should be doing: taking a punt on a potential superstar. If he doesn't work out, what have we lost? Three fifths of fcuk all.
