Alex Grimaldo

Cheers mate....my only concern with Grimaldo is that he's only 5ft 6 and doesnt look strong or good in the air! Can see him getting beat alot at the back post. Ideally, Mendy would be the better option..taller, stronger, more powerful and just as quick.
Keep in mind I'm no ITK mate, just my opinion lol.

I can understand the difficulty in getting Sandro but unless there's a huge obstacle for Mendy, going from Mendy to Grimaldo would be underwhelming. Mendy is young too and he's very athletic, a good fit for the PL.

People love a big strong lad don't they? Ashley Cole managed to somehow be the best fullback in the history of the premier league despite being a pretty scrawny 5 foot 9 (and a twat) Not convinced there is anything to suggest you need to be big and strong to play fullback in the premier league, most of the ones currently doing well aren't particularly big, most are just fast. Clichy averaged winning about 1 header a game last year, so I doubt it's a particularly huge part of being a fullback

For the record, Grimaldo is 3cm's shorter than Danny Rose.

When after dominating United for 90 minutes but being unable to beat the parked bus, Felliani arrives at the back post and the full back has to beat him in the air, height is certainly beneficial

I'm thinking of the overall balance of strength and technical players in the team. Great prem teams in the past have all had a mixture of the two. We've barely got any players that you'd call powerful, or even tall. I don't believe you can win the league with a team full of small but good technical players, but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

So we need a 2 meter tall fullback just in case one long, floated ball to Fellaini comes in in one game of the season? If Fellaini isolates any fullback in world football at the back post on a high cross then he's going to win it, you can't make decisions based on that. The reality is that very, very rarely does a fullback actually get into a position where their height is particularly important. Even on a back post cross the most important thing is positioning, not height. It would have to be a pretty loopy cross to become a genuine jump ball. (as Danny Rose seems to have found, given that he's a midget and I've never heard anyone suggest that makes him a liability on crosses)
