I'm really intrigued by how they will do the expansion now.

As lots of us said some time ago 'anything is possible' but many of us laypeople simply can't envisage how this will be achieved.

I suppose building the new roof over the existing structure leaving everything else in-situ and then doing the more serious work below the new roof is perfectly feasible but flies in the face of every other expansion that we ahve seen carried out.

Its still going to be an easier job than Spurs' plans for their new stadium though.

Here's an image of how that will go with Spurs having 2 stadiums at the same time ahead of the removal of one stand at WHL to allow the completion of the final stand at the new stadium.

Believe is just one of the options they are considering. i believe it would be the best option, as would save money in the long run on construction costs. Disruption kept to one season.

Not sure it is the best option. For whatever period they are constructing the new ends, they'll have to close off at least the entire end and possibly some of the adjacent stand. If they work on both ends at once, you're going to end up with a temporary capacity of 15-20,000 for several months due to both ends being closed at once.

Had the tour on Saturday and they are sure that no capacity will be lost , and the roof will only be lost for a few games

Hmm. Fair enough. I'd be surprised if they were able to pull that off but they are employing engineers and I am not one, so I must defer to their knowledge here.

The guide didn't know how they were going to pull it off either, but assured us thats what they had been told

You shouldn't mention sp*rs on this wonderful thread mate. It will a mess of graphs, bar charts and spreadsheets before you can say 'Bale is still a sp*rs player'

HS2 will never happen

I wouldn't be so sure. We're already talking openly about the expansion of a stadium we've only been tenants of for 10 years. I bet no City fan would've thought that possible when we made the move from Maine Road.

Whilst the feasibility and logistical nightmare of implementing something the majority of the country does not want will be undoubtedly hard, it is nice to dare to dream that an area of East Manchester that has been stuck in a bygone era for decades, might just be able to be given the facelift it has craved, with the tangible promise of HS2 coming to Manchester.

East Manchester will be totally transformed over the next few decades without HS2

The Conservatives will have little chance at the next election and I guarantee that Labour's manifesto will promise to scrap the plans for HS2 to buy middle England's votes
