What’s the penalties for ?

If 2 drivers both get 15 place engine penalties then they don't both start 20th, one of them has to start 19th. So Bottas gets his 3 places, Max gets his 5 and Bottas gets bumped up 1 as his penalty gets applied first.

They've effectively given Bottas his 3 places, then give him another 1 to bump Sainz above him which means there's now 4 cars who placed behind him who are now in front of him, so he's had an extra place penalty.

Yes they will base the penalty off the finishing position of the grid. If driver A finishes 6th and driver B finishes 9th and they both get 15 place penalties, A starts higher up in the 19th position and B would start 20th.
It's not some grand conspiracy where the FIA are openly flouting their own regulations otherwise Mercedes would rightly kick up a fuss

Hamilton will take 25 points today barring anything crazy. I still think verstappen will probably end up 2nd though

Yes they will base the penalty off the finishing position of the grid. If driver A finishes 6th and driver B finishes 9th and they both get 15 place penalties, A starts higher up in the 19th position and B would start 20th.

by your logic, they'd both have to start in 20th. 6th place got his pen, then gets bumped up 1 to accommodate 9th's penalty. Should be no different to Bottas being bumped up because Max got a worse penalty.

na, I sense shenanigans today. Lewis doesn't get many easy wins from pole anymore. I sense either a tangle with Gasly or an engine failure.

need to watch out for Alonso punting Lewis off .

Alonso has too much respect for him, as shown in Hungary imo. It's Gasly in the other Red Bull torpedo that's the bigger danger methinks.

You‘re right and it pisses me off every time. The spectator wants to see fairness throughout sport and regardless of team or driver, decisions like these should be made immediately, not left until just before the start.
