I've no opinion on the institution whatsoever and barely know a thing about Prince Philip, but expect I'll learn more over the coming days and weeks as I read the news stories and biographies.

On a human level its impossible not to feel sorry for somebody that has lost a partner especially after so many decades together.

He loved his cricket didn’t he, he’s been caught at second slip, a brilliant innings and he trudges off the pitch for 99.. RIP

It's been covered already on here. Apparently, he didn't want a big, grand funeral.

Couldn't have one anyway unless they kept him on ice for months.

I should think he is entitled to a state funeral if Thatcher got one.

She received a ceremonial funeral, not a state funeral; Churchill’s was the last state funeral.
