Spurs 2016/17

Madrid, Barca, PSG, United. Take your pick.

And which of those clubs want him to join them this summer? He doesn't fit Madrid's profile at all. If he's on Barca's short list at all, it's some way down. They are looking elsewhere. PSG? Can't see Poch taking the step down to Ligue 1. And Utd aren't in the market for a new manager.

Nah.........he'll be at Spurs for a while yet.

Nope. A bid of £80m most definitely would not get him. Paying off the stadium? That will only take care of itself if Tottenham continue to enjoy comparative success on the pitch. And that will not happen if the Allis of this world are exchanged for Paulinhos.

You're not looking at the bigger picture. Levy has never sold Spurs' best players just to make a profit. He has only ever sold them when the player has given him no other choice. Other than Levy, who do you think, is the most important person at Spurs right now? Mauricio Pochettino, by a huge margin. He has transformed the mentality of the club. Turned it from a perennial also-ran into a genuine challenger. All without needing to splash out in the transfer market. He is the manager that Levy has been searching for since he first took the helm. He's not going to risk that for a short term profit.

He knows that Pochettino has form. If the club starts selling its best players, Pochettino will look to fulfill his ambitions elsewhere. That's the deal and well Levy knows it. Keeping Poch happy is his highest priority for the foreseeable future. It represents the club's best chance of taking the next step.

So, no........£80m does not get Alli. Nor £100m for that matter.

Except £80m does get Alli. As £85m got Bale, as £32m got Berbatov, as £40m got Modric. I agree he does not want to sell and he wants to keep Pochettino happy but Levy accepts (as does the Arsenal and Liverpool Boards) that whilst Spurs are a big beast, there are bigger beasts in the jungle. When City offer Spurs £80m and triple Alli wages, it is inevitable that he will leave. And he will be replaced by the Paulinhos of this World. And the stadium will be paid for. And the Spurs will continue to be a big beast but there will always be a handful of bigger beasts taking their players. But the number of bigger beasts than Spurs is getting smaller. And that is Levy's great achievement.

£85m got Bale because Bale started creating. Likewise Modric and Berbatov for their respective fees. £18m got Carrick back in 2006 because he had only two years of his contract remaining and wasn't going to sign a new one. I repeat, Levy has never sold Spurs' best players just to make a short term profit. This is a common misperception. He is all about long term growth.

Furthermore, when each of those players were sold, Spurs was clearly a step down from the top four or five clubs. Not so any more. The only respect in which they still lag behind is wages. As of now, the players are loving life at Spurs. They have all recently signed new, long term contracts. Poch has created a superb team spirit. The players all have absolute faith in him (and no wonder, given how he has improved them). They have justifiable belief that tangible success is within reach - imminent, even. On the evidence of the past couple of seasons, they have no reason to think that they have a greater chance of that success elsewhere in England.

Of course, that's not to say that wealthier clubs couldn't flash the promise of a ginormous contract at any of Spurs' players and so unsettle them, if money is their overriding concern. Even so, my guess is that Levy will no longer sell to Premier League rivals. And in the highly unlikely event that he would eventually agree to sell a player so young, so good already and so rich with even greater potential as Alli is to another Premier League club, it would only be for an outrageously eye-watering, jaw dropping amount. The record books would have to be rewritten. We know enough about Levy to be quite certain of that.

I think we probably agree. Every player at Spurs could have their heads turned. And there is a lot interest...

Lloris (United / Real Madrid), Rose (City/United), Alderweireld (refused contract), Walker (City/United), Dele (Bayern, Madrid, City), Kane (United)

That lot would put a dent in the Stadium costs.

When Pep leaves I would have Pooch here in a heartbeat. Class manager.
