What book are you reading now / or recommend?

I partridge we need to talk about Alan- but get the audio book read by the great man himself.

If you want crime fiction recommendations, Pm me. I could do a 50-page thread on this alone but don't want to bore anyone.
One recommendation: the best crime novel of the last 12 months (and for once the awards backed it up) is well worth a read. The Lock Artist by Steve Hamilton, about a kid struck mute and socially isolated by his parents' murder. He starts messing around with locks as a hobby and ends up being a reluctant but brilliant safecracker for the Mob. Absolutely superb.

Great shout on The Dice Man, a stone cold classic. Can pick it up in HMV for a couple of quid nowadays.

Pure by Andrew Miller.

Set in Paris just before the revolution. Beautifully written and it feels like you are there, his descriptive powers are excellent. The characterisation is great too and they feel like real people.
Loved the way the main character changes and how he is influenced by the city and city life.

Our Kid by Billy Hopkins. Read it years ago but found it recently and read it again.
Set in Collyhurst. Autobiographical account of childhood in Manchester during and after WW2. Funny and heart warming. Great read. Also its easy to find on most cheap book stalls.
