Windows 10

Got around to installing build 10041 today as it was on my todo list. They fixed an annoying issue onthe keyboard where the Num Lock light wouldn't turn on, and have updated the UI and Start Menu sorting.

The ISO is available for free from Microsoft if anybody wants to give it a go:

And they provide the product key of:

Code:
Product key: NKJFK-GPHP7-G8C3J-P6JXR-HQRJR

From what I read you do get the free upgrade if you run a legit copy of windows 7.

Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users.

Kicking off the consumer-focused Windows 10 event in Redmond on Tuesday, January 21, Microsoft operating system chief Terry Myerson announced that current users of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the new operating system for free as long as they do so within one year of Windows 10's launch—even if your version of Windows is pirated. Once you’ve claimed the upgrade, it's permanent, and Microsoft will keep you updated for the supported lifetime of the device.

“We think of Windows 10 as a service,” Myerson said.

Thanks for that mate. read a piece the other day that stated the free upgrades would be for 8 users only.

When I switched my computer on just now, there's a little icon that says I can have a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out. I'm on Windows 7 which works great for me but my wife has a laptop with Windows 8 which is rubbish. Does anyone know if this Windows 10 is any good? I know its not out yet, but those ITK usually have information pre-release

If she's got Windows 8 rather than Win8.1 then she has to upgrade to Win8.1 first. I'm certainly going for it but then again I'm a bit of a gamer and DirectX 12 is too important not too.
I can't see why anyone wouldn't take a free upgrade to the latest OS which will be supported after the others have been abandoned.

I can't stress this enough, never switch to a new version of Windows until at least service pack 2.
Stick with 7 for at least another year.
