Same here.

Monaco didn't appear to have our energy reserves in the final half hour, which although they throw everything into attack and clearly possess a big physicality, the fuel tank comparison has to be made when you also take into consideration we went toe-to-toe, had five over 30s in the side at any given time and play in England.

I've seen a lot made about Monaco lacking game-management 'nous', and their coach saying they showed inexperience and wanted to put on a show.

Whilst there is plenty of merit in that, I also saw a Monaco team who started to stand-off because they were tired and nervous.

Another ten minutes, we could have scored another two.

The truth of one game isn't the one of anothers.
We played without Baka and Fabi defensivly last night, and they are the masterpiece of our defensive set. And one of the two starter at Center back was ruled out.
If they both (fabi-baka) are on their level on the second leg, trust me, it will not be that much easy for you to score. Silva and Yaya always had 5/6 meters without anyone around since Baka and Fabi were in a black day.

But I hope you will score one early. We got a young team, they need to play without pressure, and taking a goal is the best way to do it, since we got nothing to loose from this point. That's how we came back from a 4/2 deficit over Real Madrid in 2004 ;)

Agreed with @Hairdoo. Physically, we were out last 20. The numbers of game this season, injuries and unexperience payd a lot there.

You got to credits willy too, who stayed focus until the end. If falcao scored the 5/4, would have been something else with the second leg.

Funnily enough, I found that game far less stressful than watching the Huddersfield match: at no time in last night's enthralling spectacle did I think we wouldn't win. Of course there were some head in the hands moments as I despaired at our ability to shoot ourselves in the foot and there was anger an frustration at some of the ref's decisions but I was strangely unconcerned throughout and just thoroughly enjoying it.

Agree about the Silva's but I thought Yaya and Dave together were once again absolutely key to us. Our front six though has some fantastic ability. Sane and Sterling's searing runs are really putting to thrill into watching this team. Hopefully Sergio's goals and assist will be the start of one of his good runs.

Oh for a fit Vinnie!
 
The return is intriguing. I think Monaco's forwards enjoyed and exploited very effectively the space available at the Etihad. City were far better at working in smaller spaces, as Pep says. So I would be interested to know the size of Monaco's pitch. I think it may be quite small as I believe its capacity is only about 15 000. It may not make for such an entertaining game.

Slagging off Pep because he's "arrogant" and only plays one way BUT go on to say he should know Monaco because that's how they play. Can't have it both ways. And against the best attacking side in Europe you can hope to not concede at home or you can play to your strengths and outscore them. Give me a manager who wants to win games over someone who doesn't want to lose any day of the week.

What's more arrogant than sitting in a warm studio with nothing on the line and telling someone else how to do their job?

I also think there is less stress involved if there is an acceptance that the opposition is on a par or better before a ball is even kicked?

There is a wider pragmatism and acceptance from our crowd if teams such as Barca, Real or Monaco are flying out at you.

Less so, if we are under-par against a team who shouldn't really be able to live with City if we turn up.

I think our set-up would make the best defender in the world look ill-equipped.

I'm not disrespecting City, and of course you were the big favorite here. But don't underestimate Monaco. We lost this game almost alone if you are fair in your anlysis. First of all by letting you back to easyly, secondly by individual mistake, and third, cause we played more game than any team in Europe, and the last 20 minutes, we clearly saw it.

C1 is just a bonus for us this year (won't have the same talk if we keep all our players next year), so, i hope anyway an enjoyable game on the second leg. And may the best goes through ;)

How do you think you got your goals? It wasn't through some sort of tactical master class. It was through really poor defending and I'm pretty sure Pep didn't send his defenders out with a message to play shit. City's goals were well worked and they could easily do it again. Where as can Monaco score 3 again without errors from City? I doubt it

Look at the first one : As I said, Jardim outclassed Pep. Pressing stones and bot sides back all game long to let Willy and Otamendi do the first pass.
On the first goal, willy does a really bad pass, who lead to an easy pass from silva to fabinho, and a perfect assist by fabi.

Dunno how you can blame your def on both Mbappe And Falcao second's goals, who were just brilliant.

Yes he is 18 YO, but no one could have def this against this guy.
Yes, Falcao isn't anymore the one from Atletico Madrid, but he isn't neither Valere Germain. Stones, played it well, take the advantage from Rademel on the shoulder, but Falcao knew where the ball was while Stones was still looking for it.
Could have been more than 3 without a really good Caballero. And Falcao's ego.

Not a pen.

Its one day after the game guys, just be honnest and fair to discuss.
 
There is no doubt in my mind that we are a better team than Monaco.

We dominated the ball and made many good opportunities which we failed to capitalise on. Monaco actually played very little football and in the main fed off our mistakes.

Monaco have some key strengths which they major on but 9 times out of 10 we should beat such a limited team. However, the problem for us is their strengths key into our current weaknesses i.e. our defense, it's speed and mainly it's decision making. A fully fit Komps would make all the difference against a team like Monaco but sadly I don't see him ever being the player he was again :-(

I guess it can feel less pressurised in a tournament that you are not "expected" to win but I don't think that was the reason for me: it was about feeling that we would come out on top.

I think a lot of our defensive problems come from our defenders just not doing the right things at the right time. Obviously the set-up can leave them exposed in certain ways but Pep is not going to change how he plays; he's going to get (more) players who can play how he wants.

It was as clear a penalty as you will see. Even our enemies in the media here admit it. So quit with the merde !

I'm not trying to getting arrogant at all, and i totally don't care about what the media said.
I just take a look at the rules, and they are clear : When a player dive without any contact, it's a yellow card. And of the day.
