It's Quiet - a new dawn

I'm not convinced that Gundo will get to required level again after several injuries and two knee surgeries. ACL plastics in 50% of cases means considerable loss of pace/acceleration on which he relied heavily at his best. He's also had a kneecap dislocation, his joint will probably never be the same again, he'll be forced to use it with great cautiousness while playing. Of course, we have to take him into consideration and hope for the best, but it's impossible to rely on him fully. Basically the same situation as with Kompany.
Isco would be unbelievable, but I'm pessimistic about him, we've discussed it in his personal thread.
Ways always a risk with gundogan when we signed him knowing he had some injury issues previously let's hope he gets back to full fitness with no issues, but it's gonna be one of those when he goes down or gets fouled it's a heart in mouth moment ..

I'd be optimistic enough about Gundogan, knee injury rehabilitation has come on a long way in the last decade or so, we might have to use him as a rotation player rather than a first team fixture but he should be fine for 40 games a season once he's played his way back in. Not worried about his pace, his awareness and speed of thought have always been his greatest assets.
If we can't get a satisfactory no. 8 then I'd take a gamble on Brahim Diaz being able to make the step up when needed, the lad has unbelievable ability and should come on in leaps and bounds once he starts getting senior action.

If we don't buy any eight I'd be inclined to think that the board seriously relies on our academy kids and 1-2 next seasons are going to be intentionally 'transitional' again. With better results, but still. Basically replicating Cruyff's long-term attempt to build a squad from homegrown players.
Edit: our attempts to get as many English players as possible are pointing to it as well.

We've got enough English players at this stage, would be surprised if we signed any more unless they were actually the most suitable options. Think Guardiola has alluded to this recently as well. I don't think having Silva, Gundogan, Dinho, KDB and Diaz as options at 8 is over relying on the academy, getting another 8 would be great but personally I see the pivot and fullback positions as far higher priorities. Plus, Diaz is one of the hottest young properties in football, if anyone should be brought in to the first team squad early it's him.

Unfortunately I just don't think pep rates nacho mate? The fans love him but the manager has to love him as well and I don't think he rates him that highly
He is miles off where we need to be, he won't get in or start regular in any top 8 side in England simple.

He didn't cost much though did he Bale , the point is they are a very good side who didn't cost anywhere near what our team does and it shows that spending £300m doesn't guarantee success, there results don't lie or their goals for and goals against. We have been very very average this season with very expensive players on the pitch.
2 League titles
2 League cups
1 FA Cup ( should have been 2)

All won by spending buckets of cash.

Without that we would be down the fucking bottom fighting Sunderland for Premier status.

People need to stop belting on about how much he or it will be to sign player A B or C if the manager needs him then City get him & whoever that may be they will pay over the odds.

Mbappa will become the best forward in Europe alongside probably the best forward in world football that's how good Mbappa & Gabriele Jesus can become & both will be at Man City imagine that, yes both long way to go but there pissing club football & international too.

Sanchez will take us up another notch & I would hate to see him at Chelsea, UTD or even Liverpool.

How can you possibly say an 18yr old in the french league will be the best in world football, talk about getting carried away

Someone probably said it about Ronaldinho when he was 18 playing for PSG, or Henry when he was 18 playing for Monaco.

What we know is that Guardiola, who knows a thing or two about seeing future world beaters up close, thought he was worth a £40m bid after 2 professional games, at 17.

We know Spurs tried to buy him for £20m before that, and that Arsenal - Arsenal, who hate spending money - were interested in signing him for millions when he was literally an amateur still, before his first contract.

We know, or at least it's been reported by Tolmie and the French press (including those who are reliable with Monaco) that we've offered over £80m a few weeks ago and been rejected.

So at the very least Guardiola, his scouting staff, Khaldoon think he's worth making the 2nd most expensive player in history, at least, and that Monaco don't think it's enough.

We also know that he's currently obliterating the records of pretty much every one of the world's top strikers when he was their age, and we know he's scored 21 goals from 21 starts, and he's stepped up on the big stage in the Champions League.

Sometimes, if a kid plays exceptionally, and everyone who knows what a world beater looks like think he's exceptional, he's probably going to be exceptional.

All this tells me is we shouldn't have sold Dzeko.

A player that needed to be first choice and have a team that will play to his strengths in order to flourish.

He went stale at City and lost his hunger from what it looked like to me as he knew he would never get ahead of Sergio.

The problem with that graph above is a lot of those players are the key men for their respective clubs and have a team that plays to their strengths. Not all will fit Pep's style no matter how great their statistics are.
