Rate this season

The fact that they don't even know that he doesn't play for us is enough to tell you that they are talking out of their fucking arses.
I won't even bother with Richard Wright.

I know what you mean, but I don't mean to say it's all accurate just thought it was something to look into too see why its difficult to offload some players and their contracts, etc.

I was reading about RM not wanting to go for Pogba because his demand in salary would make him one of the highest paid players and unsettle many other RM players, etc.

As a Barca fan I wondered why we paid 50M for Gomes then say we pay him 80K weekly, were as Thiago or Verratti type player would cost us 150-200K weekly.

I'll rate this season by voting Conservative, be fucked if I'm going to be on another losing side this year.

5/10.
But the margins between success and failure are small.
We've had three major decisions given or not given in error against us this season:
Luis not sent off vs Chavs at home
Walker not sent off and penalty vs Spurs at home
Stones 'goal ' disallowed vs Saints at home
And one go for us
Bravo not sent in Derby ( and even that was 50/50)
Those decisions go the correct way and that's at least a net extra 5 points to us and three less to Chelsea , that would have put us right back in with a shout in the league.
As for the FA Cup, if our ' goal' is given then we would have probably gone on to win that game.
So with just getting the correct decisions in those games we would still be in with a shout for the double.
Now just for a second imagine if in addition to those correct decisions being given we'd have had say three go our way that shouldn't have ( yes some teams are that lucky), we'd probably be now be well on course to win the double.
As I said, despite a disappointing season, the margins are small.

They are but we still haven't been able to defend a lead in key matches either. Too fragile. Poor season given the hype and start. lets hope next one is better

slipping to

4/10

if we miss out on a top 4 spot

after the shite last 2 seasons Im finding it hard to grasp how this season has panned out with no real challenge for the league

I was so frustrated with city last year as they sleepwalked through the season half arsed,i feel the team have put a lot more into it this year

for me,the possession football is so boring and predictable and toothless and unexciting

we have played some great stuff at times, but every team can say the same on their day

we have been unlucky ,but then agan, every fan of other teams will say the same

but we have still fallen way to short of where we want to be.

A season trophy-less is always disappointing these days for City, and that we've not secured a CL place yet. But has it been a failure? Not for me. We've made progress, and the signs are very promising. Comparing performances this season to the previous one, we've been miles better. There were so many insipid, poor performances last season. We were outplayed by all the top sides. The reason the results have been similar is because our best defender and captain has missed almost the whole season, and the goalkeeper we brought in has struggled. The full-back areas have been neglected for too long, and we've relied heavily on one striker pretty much all season. I think we've been unlucky. For Chelsea, like Leicester, its been a perfect storm for them. No European football, no major injuries, and all the summer signings clicking straightaway, with the exception of Batshuayi who doesn't really start. Compare that to us. We've had European football, on the injury front I've mentioned Kompany, but Gundogan has been a bigger miss then has been appreciated. He was supposed to be a key player in Guardiola's plans and he's barely featured. Can you imagine if Kante missed nearly all the season for Chelsea? Then we lost Gabriel just when he was showing us what he can do. Our signings have been mixed. Bravo has been the big let down, Gundogan has missed most, Stones has made mistakes, but I like him a lot, he's got better, and will be a great defender, we've only seen the best of Sane since December, Gabriel didn't play until January, and Nolito doesn't feature much. So really its been almost the same team since last season, which just made 4th. Sure, there have been bad performances, Leicester and Spurs away, 1st half at Monaco stand out the most, but definite progress is being made, and I'm seeing a team with an identity and a blueprint. I remember Pochettino's first season at Tottenham being a real mixed bag, but look at them now. I'm convinced Guardiola will achieve great things at City. There's so much promise in this team, and with strengthening in the key areas it will fly, I have no doubts.

One word, paragraph!

The media kept banging on about us having the best squad by a mile. Not in my opinion. Just look at the goals against, the age of players expected to compete in four competitions, the constant forced rotation, the injuries. Comparing seasons is a waste of time, teams perform better or worse, certainly not exactly the same. We needed new f'backs two seasons ago, why it didn't happen is a mystery, but it cost us big time. All things considered, we've over-achieved this season.Recruitment will be the difference between more of the same or a great leap forward. A good dose of luck and non-biased officials would be a nice bonus.

Not certain we would have beaten Chelsea even if they had a man sent off. Also I was at a game you may have been there as well when we missed not one but two penalties so might have missed the Walker peno. Can't say we even deserved a point at home to the Saints. Too much has been made of the bad decisions this season an easy excuse in my view.

for the first time in years I can honestly say I not enjoyed the football I've been watching and at times
found it so boring I've nearly nodded off . 4/10 max

The season was defined by the home games against the 3 teams above us.

We played the better football, and should have come away with 5-7 points. but somehow contrived to have 2 players red carded and concede a penalty: not to mention the worst refereeing decision of the season when Kyle Walker wasn't punished for pushing Sterling (in itself providing a 4 point swing).
Has any Premier League opponent been red carded against City this season?

City only get soft decisions against Hull, or when we're already beating West Ham 3-0, but even more galling is the media reaction:
The epitaph for 2016-17
"City should have had a penalty, but they can't have any complaints"

Big disappointment, possession is king, defenders passing forward to the keeper when closed down and playing suicide at the back. The keeper situation and our inability to kill off teams or let them back in after going ahead, with defensive mediocrity, has taken the shine off some of our genuinely good attacking play. Think Pep is building but the team overall are worse now than at the start of the season and tactically he hasn't pulled up any trees for me, especially in the Cup Semi when his subs were awful. Yes, it seems some of the officiating hasn't helped but we caused a lot of our problems overall and shouldn't need to beat the Rags (who have also been shite) to get top 4 as we know we'll have decisions go against us in the Derby. 5/10 yet looked so good the first 10 games only to splutter to a finish.

As expected 6/10
getting knocked out by Monaco was the biggest disappointment for me.
Really happy with all the signings from the summer so that's the positive

Not far away from what I expected tell the truth considering we had an ageing squad and new manager.
I think the worst thing that could have happened to pep was winning those first 10 games on the bounce which rose all of our expectations and everything after that seemed to go down hill and end up in disappointment.

There's been a few games where I've wondered 'Pep wtf are you doing' like the Monaco away game and the FA cup semi at the weekend where his subs looked a bit perplexing but in hindsight and listening to his after match interviews, he doesn't seem bothered it's as if he's using this first season to try a few things out and work out what players are able to follow his instructions, Stones being a prime example who imo has improved vastly as the season has worn on before his Injury.

I also get the feeling he's trying to prove to the owners that a large percentage of this current crop are not upto his expectations, had we gone on this year to win the league and gone further in the CL then his argument to bring in better players would have become hindered somewhat.

As it is, I have no doubt we will spend big over the summer and bring in 4 or five top class players as a lot of the old school are released, I'll be critical of Pep come this time next year should we be in the same position but for the time being I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt in the knowledge next year should be the start of great things to come hopefully.
