Alexis Sanchez

I reckon they should work with Pep.
Best manager in the world with a blank chequebook.
Apparently Jesus, Aguero, Sterling, KDB, the Silvas, Sane aren't enough, what 's needed is both Mbappe and Sanchez are needed, that 's how great of a manager Pep is.

Meanwhile, Alexis Sanchez is apparently injured and should miss first 2 games.
Make what you will out of that.

I'm wondering if we'll see you later or in a while

It's funny, as just a few posts before yours we were being told that Kronke will make the decision to sell Sanchez, & that Wenger is only a puppet.

As Arsenal fans, we always thought Wenger had a bit too much power, & neded people around to helphim, but to also challenge him more. We have Gazidas & Dick Law, but not much else. We have made steps to try & address some issues, Huss Fahmy from Team Sky has been hired to help with regards player contracts, & we have a new Director of Performance in Darren Burgess, so it looks like we are trying to share / dilute Wenger's workload / influence, Jens Lehmen brought in as new first team coach.

Ultimately, i would think you do want the manager to have the final say on most matters, otherwise you have players getting signed that he didn't want, players getting sold he wanted to keep etc (within reason of course). He just needs to be pushed more, & be held more accountable in my opinion.

Spurs are where we were before the stadium build. We had built a very good team, & were hoping the stadium build would push us on. The reality is that Chelsea & Man City got new owners that changed the landscape. We struggled to afford top new players, we stopped winning, our existing top players wanted to win, & get paid better while they were at it. Seemed a bit of a cycle for a good 10 years. We started to pay the squad a lot better as a way to try & keep players & build. Unfortunately, most never quite lived up to the hype, but are on good contracts, so we are struggling to shift them on. However, given the strength of the premiership now, we've never managed to get back to where we were pre stadium build.

In a way, the stadium build has came at the worst time for them. They are on the cusp, but can't really afford to push on. Their players are now highly rated, but they still don't pay the wages of the top clubs. They have never had a better season in decades, yet players soon have had their head turned. Already, some are away & want away. They now have to go into the new season playing at Wembley, so will struggle to match last years performance. The cycle is all too familiar to Arsenal fans.

Sorry to go so far off topic, these should probably be in the General Arsenal or Spurs threads.

Plus one , very well presented .

Depends if they qualify for the Champions League next season.
They still have to replace the player in 12 months and he proved last season to be no guarantee of a top four place.

Either way, the cost of his contract ending (50/60m) plus his wages make him a far sight more expensive to Arsenal this year than Neymar or Mbappe would be if they had bought either of them.

I've heard this said a few times - Does the credit for qualification to the CL go completely to Sanchez every year? I guess they should cash in 50M for the guy that couldn't even get them CL qualification this year then ;)

I don't think Arsenal will sell him this year as they've decided to make a stand - not because they think keeping him guarantees champions league football

No one's said keeping him guarantees Champions League football. It improves their chances considerably though.

Fair enough, however the chances are only higher assuming he's happy to be tied to Arsenal for another year while playing Europa league football AND assuming they can't buy someone else for 50M who'd serve them longer and still enhance their chances

I could be off but not sure I agree on this. If he was signed up and committed to them I would. If not, it's possible his motivation could slide. Sure, he'd do enough to have some standout moments that would maintain his reputation but would you see him cajoling the team the way he did at Bournemouth last year? I don't think anyone thinks Arsenal finished outside of top 4 because of any deficiency on Sanchez's part.

Wenger's attitude is very 'scorched earth'. He can't honestly believe that having asked to leave Sanchez will give everything for the cause. Sanchez will sign a pre contract agreement with someone in January and he'll be focussed on pastures new. Arsenal miss out on £50m and will need over £75m to replace him. No one can entirely predict how Arsenal will do this season - they'll be in the mix for top 4 but I'm not sure that they have enough to Finish ahead of us, Chelsea or Spurs - I think they'll be in a three way fight with Liverpool, Everton and United for 4th and if they are struggling around the turn of the year - I can see a serious meltdown. Wenger signing a new deal did not address any of Arsenal's problems - it merely glossed over them and they will resurface again next season.

Well, yes it's certainly a risky strategy on Arsenal's part. If Sanchez becomes a disruptive figure in the dressing room it could backfire badly. Personally, I think it would make more sense for them to sell now but Wenger is stubborn and I'm not convinced he will.

Let's see what happens after his abdominal pain clears up. Back pain? That's always a good one.

Can't disagree with any of that only nobody can't expect a footballer to waste two or three years of their career while spurs, arsenal etc build a stadium/see 4th place as success. They only have a few years on the real mega bucks so need to maximise those years with money and trophies. Not saying you vilifiey these lads but plenty do.

Arsenal as a football club would be beyond stupid to not sell him. Think about the other players if they see him slacking off and he's still guaranteed first team. They've only got 5 months till he starts negotiating with other teams.

Can I just add, I'm not sure why we assume Sanchez will sign a pre contract in January and his mind will be elsewhere.

Im not denying it could happen, but he's not the first person and won't be the last to leave on a bosman deal. We've just signed one this summer, who is known to have a similar 'fighter' attitude to Sanchez, and he was highly commended for his performances last year.

I'm on the same page. I thought we'd see them in market for a replacement but we've heard nothing other than the Lemar link, which doesn't suggest anything imminent.

Looks like the status quo for the past few weeks to me, I can't believe that since the end of last season Wenger ever seriously thought Sanchez was going to sign a new contract.

Yh, seems like he's trying to convince himself that Sanchez will stay. He might stay but Wenger doesn't sound sure in any Press Conference.
