Jonny Evans

Have we signed him yet or are we still knocking on Evans door?
Txiki take Mangala off the team,
I can't use him anymore,
It's gettin' expensive, too expensive to deal,
I feel I'm knockin' on Evan's door.

Knock, knock, knockin' on Evan's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on Evan's door...

That team had just won the title and he's since gone on to do very well at WBA.

Granted he's not in Kompany's class, but who do you suggest who is home grown?

We're talking about defensive cover here. Not a replacement for Kompany or Stones. That seems to have been lost on many.
Not sure how you classify 'very well', but a defender in the most defensive team in the league probably looks better than they are. Smalling was the reincarnation of Maldini when the rags were playing defensively.

I haven't watched all the other teams defenders, but that's not my job. If it was though, with £25M to spend, I'd be disappointed in myself if my report concluded that Evans was the answer.

We all thought the rags had pulled a fast one on West Brom when he went there.

Jonny fuc#ing Evans

Fu#k it, I'm headed to the Trump thread. The world makes a bit more sense in there.

Name me another option for less then 25mil? Keane was 30mil and isn't as good neither is Gibson who is quoted similar figures. And you are correct in stating Evans is a do for now signing but you are wrong comparing him to those players they were signed based on potential and the belief that that could adjust to the league and those risks didn't pay off Evans is a very low risk signing. Bar stones and Cahill Evans is the best home grown CB out there in my opinion. His fee is high but the market is mad, watch him play left sided CB, comfortable with either foot, good on the ball, good in the air, good positioning which helps as he isn't the fastest, strong and determined. If he wasn't a rag most people would be happier purely based on football not money or past its hard to think of reasons why he wouldnt be a great addition to the teamsheet.

Well we will see. A CH has been the priority for me for a long time now and it looks like its way behind buying another attacking midfielder like Bernardo Silva (much as I like him)

It's a needs must signing at best but it didn't have to be if CH had been given more of a priority. Who will we miss more Bernardo or Kompany? Who is more likely to be injured?

I'm finding Jonny Evans more frustrating since I've been on about City signing VVD since his Celtic days.

I could possibly stomach this deal if we bagged one of Sanchez or Mbappe

Won't happen mind but it would soften the blow a little

I don't think its hysteria not wanting a decidedly average player at the club, he is just not good enough for City and that's an undeniable fact..!

No that's an opinion, one I happen to agree with but that still doesn't make it a fact.

We all thought the rags had pulled a fast one on West Brom when he went there.

Well that’s clearly bullshit. He was an experienced international with almost 200 appearances and 3 PL Winners medals. If anything West Brom pulled the fast one as they only paid £6 million for him.

Course it does mate, my missus regularly tells me that when she wants my opinion, she will give it to me, thought I would apply the same logic on here, you busted me though.... Spoilsport..
Evans is still a shit donkey though and that is an undeniable opinion...!

Nobody thought he was a good idea at the start of the window.

Alvez choosing PSG has had a knock on effect which has resulted in the Evans situation. We can either accept it or query if CH should have been more of a priority at the start. I can't accept it right now but if Sanchez comes then maybe.

And yet he has well over 200 league appearances and is captain of his club and last season Arsenal tried to buy him. He is not a donkey.

City are not trying to replace Kompany, or Stones, we are trying to bring in cover for them. That player is not going to be a Van Dijk. You bring him in, you replace Stones.
