Funny how only City fans see the bad defender, and everyone else sees a good one.

Almost as if there's a reason city fans aren't impartial...
We'll soon see if we sign him, mate. Hope he's fucking brilliant and my assessment of him being average is shown up to be bollocks.

I thought LVG got rid.. because Evans ****cope with--pressure/complex tactics/rotation

What could possibly go wrong if he signs for us
I dunno why LVG got rid, but I've heard nothing but glowing remarks about him from WBA fans & a couple of Birmingham Mail Journo's who reckon he's been exceptional & consistently their best player since his arrival, hence being made captain this season.

Being in a Pulis team, he must be able to defend.

Haha.

I always think it's good from time to time to step out of the myopic tribalism that surrounds football and actually go and talk to people who know more than you. I did just that about Evans and am now pretty excited about his signing. Say what you want but there's a lot of Midlands journalists and West Brom supporters who are taking the piss out of the reactions from some City fans. Our centre halves in the last few seasons have hardly covered themselves in glory whereas Evans has been outstanding for West Brom for two seasons now. Granted their expectations are much lower than ours, but most people credit him with being their consistently best player during the period he's been with them. Certainly he's going to bring the kind of stability we rarely saw whenever Otamendi/Stones for example played together.

Appreciate that he played for the rags but considering the number of ex rags that have come through the door that shouldn't really be an issue.
I genuinely think Otamendi and Stones would look fantastic under Pulis at WBA. That's not to say that Evans can't do ok for us, he might, but the challenge is totally different playing in a defence under Pep.

Being good in the West Midlands is not necessarily what we are after these days, although I don't deny there once was such a time

no pressure /simple tactics/Pulis doesn't rotate....this helps Evans look good at WBA

I agree but I think Evans at his age with his experience is ready for it. If anything I think he'll be a much better all round defender for us having spent two years under Pulis playing no nonsense football. His experience will be invaluable in that backline as will his stability.

I'd certainly rather have him than Gibson, primarily because of his experience and presumably ability to organise. Personally, I think we need some genuine pace in central defence. I know we have quick full backs now but I don't think they will always be in a position to help out. With the best will in the world, Evans isn't going to bring any pace to our defence. It's just very frustrating because VVD really does tick most boxes for what we need on the pitch but I keep reading that Evans ticks loads of boxes but mainly on things like budget and being home grown. I'm not convinced he's what we need.

Bit harsh that mate. Think Stones will be fine. He needs to sharpen up mentally but it's a big season ahead for him and i expect him to really kick on. Evans will actually be the perfect partner for him when Vinny's not available/is being rested. Loads of people making shouts for Ben Gibson who's just been relegated and only has one season of Premier League experience.
ok I may have been a bit harsh, im just waiting for stones to put in the sort of performance that has you going, fuck me he was excellent today. Hes just so laid back.

I think that Evans ticks a lot of boxes from a footballing perspective, which is why presumably he's on the list of defenders Pep would like. I appreciate that he's not pacy, but defensively he's exactly the kind of stable figure that we need.

I would be happier if the only time I saw jonny fucking evans mentioned was in the 'skin conditions' thread as a name a poster had given to a particularly annoying anal wart.
