Not only that, the question of playing time is ridiculous.

VVD is much much better than Otamendi and Stones so he would play a lot.

I'm also not buying he only wants Liverpool, it's probably his preference but at the end of the day he said he wants to play CL and win trophies Liverpool, Chelsea and City all offer him that.

If his choice is stay at SOTON or join City or Chelsea, I'm fairly sure he would choose to leave.

As far as I can gather, City made an enquiry as did Chelsea & Liverpool, but only Liverpool have made a firm offer, but backed off when Southampton threatened to report them for tapping up the player.

As far as I can see it, if a CL team came in for him and could agree a fee with Southampton, I think they'd stand as good a chance as the Dippers.

Yes, I if I recall correctly, we agreed a deal with Southampton very early on in the window, but the guy was ònly iñtersted in siğniñg for Kĺopp. Nothing you can do in that situation, sadly - As arsenal are (allegedly) about to discover (re Sanchez & Pep)

Doesn't sound like our usual modus operandi , we usually check out with the players agent that they do want to come and we can agree terms before we approach the club.

If you were VVD, you'd just look at his injury record and you'd find that you might not be waiting all that long.

You might also look at Savic, Nastasic and Mangala for other CB flavours of the moment. And you might query why City weren't in for you a couple of years ago. And you might also ponder on Tosin and the Belgian guy whose name I can't remember (and neither can City).

Then set that against Klopp's interest.

You'd expect a player valued at 70mill to back themselves. If that is part of any player's thinking then it says a lot about them. I don't think we're the only club that's ever signed a player only to sell them on because they don't come up to the required standard.

It's a two-way street. Both parties like to know they are really wanted, not second choice or stop-gap. I'd say wanting to sign for the red dippers is showing plenty willing to back himself. And hearing City are sniffing around JFE probably isn't a big encouragement.
