Tony Coton

Great keeper and the thought of some of our fans at the time were pissed off that he replaced the 2nd rate Andy Dibble was simply incredible.

The Bottom House you say? Live just down the road from there.

Have to meet up for a beer. Though I prefer The Robert Peel :-)

As for TC, my old man knew him a bit back in the day and got him to come along to our junior team games a few times and to present trophies at end of season awards. That was for the mighty Claremont Rovers :-)
the fox at dosthill is the best pub in tamworth

Had his shirt as a kid, my first City hero. Used to sit in the North Stand and sing 'Englands Number 1.' Really should have been given a shot and it's unbelievable when you hear why he didn't get that chance.

Still keep an eye on eBay for that shirt - if it ever comes up and I get it signed I'll be chuffed to bits.

For those that don't know, TC book is out on 21st Sept. Seen snippets on Twitter including a bit about why he never played for England. Was new to me but the reasoning was pure Swales.

Despite where he went he was my childhood hero and still the best GK I have seen play for us (I'm 33).

I remember wearing a TC England's No.1 T-shirt. Sure I brought it from Piccalilli Records. Class.

Best keeper I've seen at City, absolute class, should have played for England.

Agree with all these.

Was my GK hero too. Gutted he never played for Engerland regulary as he would have rated one of the world greatest.

Coton was a bit of a hard bastard too, by all accounts. Looking forward to reading the book.

Remember seeing him and Quinn in a curry house in Rusholme after a game once. I'd had a few and ventured over to talk to them, only to be told in no uncertain terms to fuck off. Don't really blame him, their onion bhajis had just arrived tbf.

Doubt if we've had anyone better since. We've had some right duds. As for "best ever", well, Swift & Trautmann take some beating.
