Next season we need a 20th anniversary play off final away kit

If we had lost the play-off final we would have walked the division the year after, as we did in Div 1.

The stuff about going out of business was made up afterwards for drama, as was not mentioned once all season. What was mentioned was that Shaun Goater was the oldest player and under 30, the high earners had all been gotten rid of (Pollock top earner left), and we had cut out cloth for Div 2 with a contingency plan if we did not get promoted. We also had 25k plus crowds and finances that dwarfed the division (bar Fulham who got promoted).

However one quote to add drama and people stop thinking. Similar to the '1894' stuff.

Bravo!!!! About time someone spoke the unspeakable truth.

We had the budget of a top three 2nd division club and we finished 3rd in the 3rd division! It was a season of dismal failure and gross underachievment.

Because we won the final in such dramatic circumstances, the players are remembered as heroes by some.

But if we’d finished 2nd that season and got promoted automatically, it wouldn’t be remembered as “the season that saved the club from oblivion”.

Instead, it would be remembered for what it was. A disastrous under-achievement and a warning that never again should we allow complacency, mis-management and diabolical recruitment result in the club sinking to unacceptable levels.

The way the play off final was won also created a huge amount of positivity during a dark time and was a big factor in us getting a second successful promotion. The bond between player and fan was completely cemented.

We'll never know but if we had gone up a year or two later then it's possible we may have just ended up like Leeds or Sheffield Wednesday and stagnated in the division above.

At the end of the day, it's only another away kit.

We have two different ones every single season. Some are classics, most of them aren't!

In an era where many of the kits are generic templates, there's no harm in having one of the many being one which gives a nod back to when Dickov reminded us why football could be so great again.

Who knows, after next season, we might associate the kit with the time we won the Champions League and more, as well as the time we came back from the dead.
