Agree that Evans is actually a good 4th choice, but aren't you being too optimistic on Komps' situation? He has a deal until 2019 and is almost impossible to shift next summer, unless the club decides to loan him out, sponsoring wages.
Kompany is going nowhere. I recall one of the articles by Sam Lee or someone reputed which said that the City management respected Kompany too much to even entertain the idea of selling him. He'll be 33 next season in April, so I'm guessing that he'll either leave on a free or retire or stay at the club in some capacity. Might even stay on as a player-coach, similar to Richard Wright. The fact is that even if he stays at the club, he's going to be phased out. He might play a few ceremonial matches here and there, but that's it. Pep said in an interview recently "Kompany is Kompany...it's not possible to trust him..it's been like that in the last few years". I don't know how anyone can come back from that.

Saddens me to say but Kompany is finished . We are desperately short at CB and Evans despite his rag DNA would be third choice not fourth.

In fairness he is third choice by default(if he comes)Mangala is well Mangala we all know what you get from him a game or two he does OK and then a couple he is in total meltdown mode, Pep just doesn't seem to rate Tosin(its a mystery to me why he hasn't moved above Mangala in the pecking order, but anyway)and Kompany is about as reliable as a Iraqi police officer when it comes to durability.
As a rule I have no issue with bringing in backup players, a squad needs those type of players too, but for the love of god bring players in that have at least a fighting chance of improving and/or some kind of resale value

I think you're right about him being third choice, and sometimes we will operate with a back three which will effectively make him first choice.

I don't understand what Pep see's in him tbh. He's 30 years old and never really looked like he'd get any better. I appreciate that he's experienced, left sided, counts as homegrown, and probably willing to sit on the bench at times, but everything about this suggests that he's a 'stop-gap' signing and that really goes against the theme that Pep has been trying to follow with us. He hasn't really signed stop-gap players for us previously, so the only reason for this can be that there's genuinely not an attainable target available to us that Pep/the club feel can come in and improve the team. Whether that's because of finances, timescales to do the deal or just that there's a issue with quality on the market, I dunno. But I'm underwhelmed to say the least.

Not a clue why were not looking a little further ahead, a player like Upamecano from Liepzig would be a much better option. Big solid good on the ball and only 19, got that french link for Mendy. Already looked decent in this seasons champs league. I know he isn't a short term fix for the rest of the season but seen as how were building a young squad for now and the future better than a 30 year old. If we started to play a back 3 then CB is actually the positions that would need some pace, at present its the position that's the oldest and slowest with the exception of stones and Tosin not being fancied i feel.

Just feel like Evans is a bit of a knee jerk to our current lack of Centrebacks and not fully thought through.

WBA have dropped the price by 1/4 to £23.5m. Fucking ludicrous fee to pay - buy Inego Martinez for £32m and get someone who is good for the future, will have some sort of sell on fee and can cover at left back. It really is a no brainer.

Said it before and I'll say it again-
1. Ex rag- not ideal but truly not too arsed
2. Just do not think he's any good.
3. The price for that profile of player(age, caibre etc.) has got to be 8-12m maximum. If we start paying 25m+ I think the "plot loss" thread on the bluemoon forum will go into overdrive.

Stones, otamendi and Evans would be the slowest defence ever.
