Excellent first half, fucking battered them and should have had more.
Final 20 mins were a damp squib, but their goal knocked the stuffing out of us. The mistake by Otamendi just put a gloss on the disappointment.
Two things cost us over the tie. The first was us shitting it in the first leg after the first goal. 20minutes of fucking madness, and we never really recovered. The second was the officiating. The two offside decisions in the first leg were tight - but still inevitable that we would both times be on the wrong end of it. Add in the penalty, and the outcome last week would have been very different. The second goal tonight was an even bigger decision. If that’s given, we win, I’m sure. They were absolutely fucking shitting it in that period before half time - that let off, followed by the sending off of Pep, helped them enormously and utterly shifted the momentum. To say it wouldn’t have made a difference as we lost 5-1 is to show a real lack of understanding of the game.
Didn’t get a chance to see a replay, but was it a foul by Firminio on De Bruyne just before their first goal? Looked it on first viewing - and had it been, it should have been a second booking. But perhaps it wasn’t. One thing that really boiled my piss was him blowing up on exactly 45 mins in the first half, despite Karius taking a minimum of 60 seconds over every goalkick. Again, a massive help for them in shortening a period when we looked likely to score again at any moment.
 
Unlucky. That first half wow. They had belief. Unlucky hitting post and yet again an onside goal ruled out incorrectly. And yet again, referee decides no penalty on Sterling. Salah did fuckall, KDB ran the game. Otamendi going to ground early for the first and just a clumsy mistake for the 2nd.

Commentator? (With Clive Allen) blowing smoke up liverpools arse, but overall, I thought we were the better team
 
I’m more worried about playing Spurs next.
On a plus side, the delusional dippers will never win the PL.
I really can’t understand that a team that is so far behind us in the league, spanks us twice quite easily.
Over the 2 legs, they were the better team. We couldn’t even get a shot on target at theirs, so we can’t have any complaints.
 
I'm gonna punch the next person I see who moans about VAR. Football isn't a real sport - sport requires rules.

Madrid don’t care about the league titles, they have won a shed load.

For them it’s all about the CL.

Our antipathy towards it is baffling considering it is what will define this club.
 
We all know the first leg fucked us here (pep to cavalier?) but these last few games has at least brought us back down to earth somewhat after what had at times seen us play some incredible football.

Tonight : we saw glimpses of what Pep wants but it's glaringly obvious where we are lacking,most obviously in defence. Majority of teams won't be able to exploit this but without the full compliment of players it there for all to see. We have some very young players who show naivety (sane) but this experience will serve them well in the future, no question.

It hurts and is very frustrating even more now barca have just gone out (Liverpool have a real chance now) but we will be stronger next season.

But of a damp squib to the end of the season and spurs isn't nailed on for a result either.

Pep has a job to pick the players up and get them over the line and get the league sorted as soon as possible. After that expect the big players to wind down ready for the World Cup.

Just want the season to end now ..
 
quelle surprise....pretty flat 2nd half.
Great start and then we sat back the next 10-15 minutes and struggled to get going until midway through the 1st half.
Seriously, defence has been shocking in the last week and a bit...doesn't seem to matter the combination. Laporte is like a friggin cart horse with the turning circle of the Titanic.
This won't be popular either but I'd give Ederson a rest, has made lots of wrong decisions in the last couple of weeks....going to ground far too quickly.
Not a good spell at all, 3 honking defeats in a row and I wouldn't be surprised if it is 4 come 9.30pm on Saturday....
Where was Jesus in the 2nd half?
In the end, that match wasn't even close...should have been 2-0 yes but, they would still have scored 2nd half, let's not pretend otherwise.
Ah well, have to suffice with a measly League Title...

THAT is the problem - not referees.

100 referees could not stop you winning if you do even slightly better than that at either end.

Two poor second halves after two great first halves is a pattern too and not a conspiracy.

We have to win Saturday as losing 4 on the trot will do huge damage to next season even given we do limp over the line this season as of course we will.

This awful week HAS to end fast or our fantastic season will be tarnished and other teams hugely encouraged for next season.

Winning the game tonight even when losing the tie should have been a minimum. But to twice be the better side by miles and capitulate at home is a bit of a concern over mentality somewhere.

Saturday has become one huge game and we have to show we can win again at Wembley.

I'm with you mate.....for all the bad calls by the refs, if we continue to make mistakes at the back, miss a boat load of chances and only great for "one half" of football, it really doesnt matter how bad the refs are....we've got issues that need fixing!!

We will win the league this year albeit not as convincingly as it looked a few weeks ago and so we bloody well should. We have the best team in premier league history, in the weakest league in years.

We may just have to accept that the price for employing Pep is that we will disappoint at elite level. His record in Europe is woeful

This will piss a lot of people off in here but here’s my view
1 . Sterling is vastly overrated. When you look at most if his goals they were tap ins. Think he has had the season if his life and will not repeat it. should have buried Utd on Saturday.
2.jesus is no aguero either . Same again misses way to many for my liking. Not good enough to lead the line on his own.3 Otamendi has had a good season but this last week he has totally gone to shit and I doubt whether he will be able to pull it back again. 4 kompany is in my eyes now a fourth choice defender for us . We need to really strengthen in the summer because I can’t see this team defending the title next season
