The Beatles through the years...

I’m not having that. Take That are the Beatles of their generation, or at least the Freddy and the Dreamers.
According to P McCartney him and John wrote about 300 songs in 7 years, of which there are thousands of cover versions by some the worlds top artists.

I didnt think Take That had done that

At least that city’s cult like mentality doesn’t just stop at football.

Love the Beatles
I think that is a serious observation. I agree. For a long time there was nothing but the Beatles and Football. Unless you were there in the seventies and eighties i dont think you can fully understand the significance of a City in decline clinging on to its identity. Just look at the politics that came out of it ffs. I left Liverpool in 83 (the old saying being the best thing to come out of it was the M62 was correct at that time.) I never went back. My brother was involved at Hilsborough etc so find some comments on here a bit irksome. But i hate LFC and the media fetish with them (partly borne out of guilt i suspect). I come from Burnage but raised in Liverpool. Supported City throughout (not easy), had a scouse accent (try explaining that on the Kippax as Dave Watson scores a late own goal). Despite all the above i am still rooted in the music of Liverpool coz it is ace la!

Hardly think any of those bands had the world, music, social and political impact of the Beatles to be honest. As for comparing Mick Hucknel to John Lennon ffs. You have to understand that in my era you could not go out to a pub without it ending the evening in a Beatles sing along. They also sang about the City and places we knew and frequented. Everyone knew someone who knew someone who worked with or knew one of them. I have been to a Macca wedding for example. If i go to America i can still dine out on it and related Beatles stuff. The city has a whole industry built around them. Hardly the same as Simply fkn Red. Maybe you are too young to realise the reach of the band then and now or simply to bitter to acknowledge it because they dont come from your neck of the woods. And by the way, no one should like the Smiths, regardless of which City they come from ;-)

Not comparing Simply Red to the Beatles mate - if you think that you’ve missed the point completely. What I’m saying is that I don’t give a flying fuck where a band is from - whether that’s Manchester, Liverpool or London. I don’t feel it’s in my dna to like any Manchester band.
I’m not too young to appreciate how big the Beatles were either so cut the patronising comments, I’m aware that Liverpool have their whole economy built around them. But all of this smells like the cult of Scouse - strange that the Fab Four fuckers couldn’t wait to get down to London as soon as they could afford it.

With their pal cilla black. Who spoke posh until she had to put on the scouse for the tele.

I am sorry the Beatles are as much a shite cult as Liverpool F.C. overrated brainwashed followers

The smiths, the cure , the stones, the bee gees, the jacksons are far better bands. Van Morrison v any Beatles song writer. No comparison.

The old 'London' remark.

Their recording studio and record company was there and they'd get pestered all day if they had stayed in Liverpool.

Anyhow..

Possibly. But post 1970 how many of them bought mansions in Formby. Don’t get me wrong they could live where they want but surely any Scouser would want to return to the best city on earth?

Same could be said of the Gallagher brothers.

If I had the money I'd leave Manchester in a heartbeat.
