The Beatles through the years...

Same could be said of the Gallagher brothers.

If I had the money I'd leave Manchester in a heartbeat.

Yep. But I didn’t hear the Gallagers banging on about how cool living in Burnage was. Most Mancunians like yourself are realistic about Manchester and know it’s limitations. In my view that’s what sets us apart from Scousers

With their pal cilla black. Who spoke posh until she had to put on the scouse for the tele.

I am sorry the Beatles are as much a shite cult as Liverpool F.C. overrated brainwashed followers

The smiths, the cure , the stones, the bee gees, the jacksons are far better bands. Van Morrison v any Beatles song writer. No comparison.

Cilla Black was from the arse end of Scotland Road and was as Scouse as they come, albeit that she later unquestionably hammed it up in the role of a professional Scouser on TV. As to the rest of your post, whether it’s a matter of personal taste or not, anyone who thinks The Smiths, The Bee Gees and The fucking Cure were better bands than The Beatles needs a long lie down somewhere quiet

And you didn’t hear about how cool living in Liverpool was from Lennon or Harrison either. Indeed there’s a well documented interview with Lennon where he states he couldn’t wait to get away because the place stifled him creatively. You could maybe argue a case for McCartney, who loves all that kind of inverted snobbery, but certainly not the others

Not comparing Simply Red to the Beatles mate - if you think that you’ve missed the point completely. What I’m saying is that I don’t give a flying fuck where a band is from - whether that’s Manchester, Liverpool or London. I don’t feel it’s in my dna to like any Manchester band.
I’m not too young to appreciate how big the Beatles were either so cut the patronising comments, I’m aware that Liverpool have their whole economy built around them. But all of this smells like the cult of Scouse - strange that the Fab Four fuckers couldn’t wait to get down to London as soon as they could afford it.
Sounds like you do care where a band comes from. Loads of Liverpool bands not part of my dna. The point was they are inescapable when you grow up there. You protest too much and you started the patronising. Try putting some salt on that chip on your shoulder, it may help.

Well being as they worked every day in London its not really strange, Recording studios, TV studios, Film studios, If you read Mark Lewisholns Beatles Diary, when they wernt on tour overseas they were in Abbey Rd studios, mostly throughout the night.
If you worked in London would you live in the North West ?

Why does it sound like I care where a band is from - don’t bother responding to my post if you can’t be bothered reading it. My favourite bands are from Cambridge, London and yes Liverpool. Perhaps I don’t understand because I’m not a scouser and didn’t grow up as a teenager in Liverpool in the sixties ? All I’m saying is that I don’t get why you would naturally like a band who were local and the pride of the city - I would only ever like a band on their musical merit.
Salt? chip? You,be lost me with your scouse wit there.

See my previous post. I can understand why they lived in London in the sixties. By 1970 how many Beatles returned To Merseyside? It’s not like they were tax exiles - they all lived down South. Personally I don’t blame them but I’m making the point that they left at the first opportunity and never returned.

At what point did i say i liked them simply because they were from my City? I do like them because of their music though. Plenty of mates in Liverpool didnt like them but could still tell you the full life story of each note on each record because it was inescapable (cultish almost if that fits your stereo typing agenda). Wether you liked them or not they are/were part of the dna and life blood of the city. Not sure what you gripe is to be honest.

I don’t have a gripe. I was questioning why you would say a band is part of your dna - implying that because you grew up in Liverpool you were naturally a fan of the Beatles. I was saying that I couldn’t understand that.
Let’s forget it mate as we’re not going to understand each other on this. Ironically the Beatles are one of my favourite bands and it sounds like Im slagging them off which isn’t intended :-)

Agreed. And your avatar is named after one of my favourite players and moments.

Well they didnt like Liverpool, only Paul has shown a soft spot for it with his big donations to the old Liverpool Institute
Ringo has stated in interview that he hates the place and has never been back, John said it was a dump and George never mentioned it..

Lets face it though, everybody they dealt with was in the south, press, lawyers, studios, other musicians, friends, etc

London was where its at as far as other musicians, producers, publishers they needed all these things after they split. Plus their wives weren't scousers.

I'd have thought it would have been very difficult to live in Liverpool when your that famous. Especially when you dont like the place :)

Puzzling why you would keep commenting on a thread about a band you dont like.

Not wumming are we ?

Sorry I did not know that there was a new bm policy that you can only comment on threads if you support the general narrative.

Bm is going to be a much duller place as a consequence.

I remember staying at my uncles house, whilst my parents were out on the piss with him and my aunt, 1962? he said, 'There's a great record here by 'The Beatles,' He said,'I've just bought it, it's brilliant.'
And indeed it was, 'Love me Do' remains my favourite song by them, but I quickly favoured other bands, the Kinks, Small Faces, Yardbirds
and Stones were always my choices, but I appreciate the great talent this band had.

Yeah but mate, its a thread where Beatle fans can chat about the band, I dont see why you would even click on the thread if you think The Jacksons were way better.

How does it help anybody to join the thread telling us they were a shit band ?

I dont care if you hate the Beatles, it is of no consequence to me, but is there something in your personality that makes you feel good if your annoying people ?

I also love the other bands you mentioned, Kinks are in my top 5 definitely. Stevie Marriot had such a great voice in the Small Faces
