World Cup 2018 | 24th June | England vs Panama Match Thread, KO 13:00 (BST)

Don't doubt that for a second mate but I'm not having that I won't let people speak, as if I could stop anyone saying what they want anyway.
Weren't directed as a personal insult to you just some blues won't have anything said about anyone except bravo:)

Sorry, but this simply isn't true. No need to compensate for the gash that gets talked about Sterling by making him out to be uniquely creative and dismissing the creative abilities of England's other attacking players. Two wrongs etc....

I've not seen anything to suggest it's not true.

I'm not saying only Sterling can do it, I'm saying he's the only one that does. The rest of the front 5/6 are very selfish. That's not a dig, it's just how they are. Rashford, Kane, Vardy, Alli & Lingard have very few assists between them. Alli being by far the best.

That's what Sterling offers different. All the others push on, so far I've only seen Sterling come deep and show for the ball.

this key factor isn't just aimed at Sterling, some on here want Rashford, Young, Lingard and others to fail and will abuse them 'Rashford' etc, alot of my hammers mates cant stand Kane and will give him sh*t if he doesn''t score - fans with club loyalty specs on are a problem and help whip up negativity, far more than the media does in todays social media world.

Exactly. They can be shit in an England shirt but still stufuckinpendous because of club blinkers and/or media hate. Or they can score for fun in an England shirt but be shit because they’re a lazy-arsed spud/rag with an oversized chin/nose. (Delete which is not applicable.)

Now I love City and hate utd as much as the next man but the level of tribalism on this thread is embarrassing at times. It dims all perspective for some.

Do you think that PL games have simply taken the sparkle away from Internationals even at WC level ?
Perhaps players as well as fans do not see it as the pinnacle of their career particularly as most good teams consist of mainly foreign players so there becomes for some a drop in class when putting on the England shirt.

I have to admit that my adrenaline level is nowhere near as high watching England cf City.

Indeed, I am a Spurs fan!

As I said, if Kane isn't working as tirelessly for England as he does for Spurs, then it will only be because Southgate has asked him to play in a different way. Still.........better than putting him on the wing, as Hodgson basically did at the last tournament!

:)

Still, if we had Kane taking the corners we could really mount a danger at set pieces...

I’m with you on this, SilverFox2. We’re particularly privileged as City fans these days, although that hasn’t always been the case! In the last few years I’ve lost a lot of interest in England as their football generally seems comparatively turgid. Must admit I enjoyed yesterday’s performance, though, and there’s something refreshing about a squad and manager without inflated egos or false reputations.

Is it a coincidence we fuck Rooney off and the squad looks better, big fat Sam would have had him first on the team sheet

Hes had a great season but his finishing needs Improving that's a fact m8,

He doesn’t “need” to improve intact it could get quite a bit poorer and he’d still be one of England’s best wingers. Got a lot of goals last season in a record breaking city side, if the lad became more clinical infront of goal then you’re looking at one of the best wide players on the planet. Not an easy thing to do, but I think he’ll get there.

If it means an "easier" ride in the knockout rounds, it's got to be done.
Always focus on your next game. All this talk of trying to avoid Brazil/Germany in the quarters is a bit premature for me when England are easily capable of being beat by whoever they face in the last 16.

Precisely. Colombia were superb against Poland and would be a huge threat.

I think I'd also quite fancy us against Brazil.

The issue here is Japan are in pole position to top group H and Colombia are likely to finish 2nd. I think we'd beat Japan but losing to Colombia is very realistic.
In that scenario 2nd again is better off for us with a better possible quarter final draw

If Colombia can beat Senegal then Japan have to beat Poland to top the group. I don't think that's an unlikely sequence of events.

Similarly, the German and Brazilian group placings aren't set in stone.
