Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Its strange I ahve just looked on the player rater on the BBC website and he has been voted the way most worst player of England what is it with the british public. Do people really think Henderson and Young and Alli were better than Sterling

You only have to look at the comments posted on any City match report or City related article on the BBC, it sums up the BBC football readers perfectly.

Sterling isn't going to get dropped, I think today showed more than any other game how he's vital to this England team.

As soon as he went off the English defence and strikers were completely cut off. Henderson is so absent in possession that Alli and Sterling dropping to half way, or Tripper passing up the right channel is the only way they can get the ball up the pitch unless it's an attempted wonderpass from Maguire or Stones.

He won a bunch of free kicks, half a dozen corners, practically put a goal on a platter when he passed out to Lingard on the 3v2 counter but somehow Lingard managed to hit the first defender.

Also combined nicely with Alli and Young a few times, pressed really well too, trapped players in combination with Alli or Kane a few times.

My heart genuinely sank when I saw those BBC ratings because it confirmed what we all knew really, he's never going to be judged by his football.

Its pathetic really, what I found strange though, he didn't seem to be involved in any of the after match celebrations that I could see.

I thought he worked his arse off for the team tonight, and Southgate obviously agreed when he was subbed.

Lingard was by far the worst player and yet he got a 5.93 rating. He wasted two fantastic chances when he was unable to find Kane (his cross was blocked) and didn't see Sterling making a run on the left towards the far post. It pisses me of. I cant believe how much people hate Raheem.

What is more, Stonesy was undisputed man of the match but Kane got it because he scored a penalty. The bias is unbelievable.

If Southgate and the coaching staff are stupid enough to bow to the pressure of the red shirt history club posse and drop the player(Sterling) making the best runs, keeping the backlines occupied to provide space for Kane then England deserve to go out. At least then those who still didn't get it after the Belgium game will be rightly shown up for the clueless muppets they are.

I don't mind him being subbed on the 80th minute when we are 1-0 up personally especially if he's tired as that keeps him fresher for the next game.

The drop off from Sterling to Vardy though was a surprise even to me(Rashford against Belgium was less of a surprise but he wasn't even nearly as good either), he didn't even offer the closing down(chase a paper bag all day that lad if you ask him to) he normally does, didn't turn the defenders around with his runs. He made one chance from the right wing that was well snuffed out before he could find Lingard, which just shows what he needs to do far more of if he gets another chance.

Can't believe City fans even look at these ratings haha!!!. Hey guys just remember there are a billion Utd and Loserpool fans out there. Lingard and Young were utter rubbish tonight but still get good ratings....it's all crap. Social media is a joke.

As a neutral Welshman I thought Kane worked well with Raz and perhaps not man of the match the game certainly changed after he went off, definitely fit as a fiddle and tried his heart out

We saw what Rashford offered.....fuck all

I think Vardy for Sterling was a smart move.....but Kane dropped deep instead of staying up top which negated the plan imo

Young has been shit all tournament....Lingard average at best too

Daily Fail:

Raheem Sterling has now gone 1,000 days without scoring for England... he threatened against Colombia but was once again the source of frustration

  • It could have been the perfect night for Raheem Sterling to end his goal drought
  • England's No 10 had gone 999 days without scoring going into Tuesday's game
  • But he was shoved aside by the giant of a defender that is Colombia's Yerry Mina
  • It was up to England's penalty heroes to make sure Sterling gets another chance

I totally noticed this. And it’s funny that all my sterling hating mates have said he was brilliant tonight???? I thought he was pretty useless tonight considering how good he can be lol. Just shows the power of tv and the media. Folk just suck it up and get so easily led

Well I watched it in Venice in a bar full of Colombians...and every time Raz touched the ball they had their head in their hands with fear. To call Sterling useless tonight shows how little you and some people know about football.

Maybe you should try another sport?
