Leroy Sane - 2018/2019 performances

That is the worst game I recall him having for us. It was difficult to watch him lose possession so easily when he is such a talented player. It's far too early in the season to worry, but lets hope the real Leroy turns up next time he get son the pitch

Before his amazing run, he was in contention for the worst substitute appearance of the season.

I hope he doesn’t turn into a mercurial talent, who fails to realise his enormous potential in the game.

Hopefully he’ll be a future ballon d’or winner and not another Mario, Robinho, Le Sulk etc.

It was like him and mahrez had a bet who could be the worst.

If he was playing regularly, he would get his form back but with Mendy in a team it doesn't look like Sane is gonna get a run of games any time soon. Sane isn't a wing-back, therefore, he can't play in a 3-5-2 formation against better oppositions because he isn't good defensively and he would be ineffective going forward from deep. 4-3-3 is what suits Sane but with Mendy fit and firing there is no place for Sane in a 4-3-3 because Mendy is unbelievably good going forward and he stretches the pitch as well. Sane isn't a tippy-tappy style of player, thus, he's ineffective when playing a bit more inside from the left flank. For instance, Sterling last season originally played on the right but most of the time he ended up in a box with Walker overlapping him. It's because Sterling is more of a tippy-tappy player than Sane is. Sane has to run at defenders with pace. Pep clearly doesn't want to play both Mendy and Sane on the left because offensively they're too similar. Sane won't play on the right flank either because Bernardo and Mahrez are there. I can only see Sane starting games if Delph starts ahead of Mendy. Last season Sane was in a same situation while Mendy was fit. He only cemented his place in a starting line-up once Mendy got injured and both Delph and Zinchencho weren't natural left-backs. I like Leroy a lot but it's such a shame that you have to adjust the system to suit Sane and not the other way round because Leroy is a bit too one dimensional.

Rusty as fuck, needs game time. Some of his touches were like some random who’d never played the game before had been pulled out of the crowd.

His final contribution, however, was world class!

Leroy was poor when he came on, but that one bit of play when he beat 2 players and went on a mazy run is what we need from him. I think he is perhaps lacking confidence and he needs a run of games to get firing.


Sane in full flow is a beautiful thing and a player we need in our starting 11 imo.

He is going to be a great in the game, hopefully here & won't be hounded out by the Platt Lane cloth cap mob.

If Mendy has been fit last season Sane wouldn’t have had as much game time Pep had to change the way we play to accommodate him and I can’t see him doing that unless we play 442.

its just an opinion. But also Pep has said a couple of times at the start of last season that Sane didn't work hard enough without the ball/when we are not in possession. He has said things like it is upto him (Sane) whether he is in the team or not. And he has clearly been dropped at the start of this year. Pep wasn't even that supportive of Sanes situation with being left out of the Germany squad...a lot of managers may have come out and said that he should be in there and look at Peps support for Sterling concerning the continued bashing of him by the media and England fans...nothing like that with Sane.....

Maybe his attitude is fine but his professionalism can surely be questioned. Two pre seasons in a row that he’s arrived unfit and then starting the season on the bench. It’s clear Pep hasn’t been happy with him this summer and the last one.

I don't see why Sane can't play with Mendy. One of the reasons Sterling scored so many last season was he had Walker so could get inside and around the box more than Sane.
Sane just needs to start doing the same , once he gets into the team.

I suppose the thinking is that his speed after 80 mins defending against us could breakdown defences but I'd be worried he might leave for another club where he gets more minutes especially after not being selected for Germany.

He didn't start the season on the bench, he started to Community Shield and came off with an injury. Anyway, this is what Pep said this weekend:

"In the past two weeks in training I've seen the Leroy that I know and we know. I am delighted about that. You know about his performances in pre-season, he arrived late and now he is getting back like Leroy is," said the City manager.

"We have six excellent strikers and not all of them can play. It is not about he is not playing because we are unhappy with his performance, it's because we have to choose and now Mendy is playing more wide. That is the reason why.

"He is ready with his physical condition. He doesn't need much time to get in better condition, it is not about that."

No the thinking is that right now there are players that deserves to play in front of him. If he works hard in training he'll start a lot of games when the CL and CC starts.
