They get a little bit of a free ride from the press with the cost of the team/squad on match days. Outclassed by Juventus but no questions on why, given their team assembled cost over 400 million

Jonathan Wilson in the Guardian putting the boot in quite nicely.

Taken from the BBC in match web commentary.....
Daniel: United did well tonight against Juventus they’re just lacking intelligence, leadership, passion, fitness, desire, strategy, a right back, midfielder, fit striker, selfless manager and CEO. Simple fixes right?
The rag masses are starting to stir.

Jonathan Wilson sticking the boot in! Summary of United's transfer activity:

"Or take Cristiano Ronaldo. For all the talk surrounding him and a return to United in the summer, there was no way that Ed Woodward was going to sanction a £103m deal for a 33-year-old. All the financial services in Kenya, Ghana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Uganda and Tanzania conducted through AFB couldn’t pay for that. Although they did help pay for Romelu Lukaku, brought in for £75m plus a further potential £15m in add-ons, in 2017. Mourinho seems to have decided the Belgian is so valuable he’s not to be risked in match situations, and so stations him far away from the rest of the side, high up the pitch where he’s less likely to be involved in the actual action.

Or there’s Rodrigo Bentancur, the clever, tough Uruguayan who controlled Tuesday’s game from the back of midfield. Brought in from Boca Juniors for £8m in 2017, he was never within United’s budget.

Sbenu might sell a lot of casual footwear but South Koreans aren’t millipedes – they only have one pair of feet each. And so they were reduced to the bargain basement bucket of Paul Pogba, still the most expensive midfielder in the world at £89.3m."

Whats Jose's plan for the return fixture in Italy lie down and taking off them or make a fight of it, as they then face us on the weekend. We owe this lot one for last season and not getting a result against them at home since 2014 is criminal as they are that bad.

Probably the first part of the plan involves landing the plane in Monaco and walking to Turin from there..........

I still think they are getting a relatively easy time of it from the media - in particular the BBC. If we or any other club had squandered that sort money and had been as bad as the rags have we'd have been pilloried by every newspaper and sports publication currently in existence. We'd have been bloody crucified. But it seems to me they are being gently reprimanded, as if being told off by a stern old 1950's headmistress, waggling her finger at the 'silly billy' in class, issuing a mild rebuke: "Tut tut. Boys will be boys, just don't do it again".
They were at home last night in a vital CL game and were apparently downright bloody awful...yet again (even the return of the 'Prancing Ponce' couldn't ignite a spark of passion from the club he once represented). Yet the papers are full of how good Juventus were, how they controlled the game, how they took the game to their hosts, etc etc.
The fact that the most expensively assembled team in the history of football played like the Rose and Crown reserve side on a Sunday morning is pretty much glossed over by the tabloids in this country.

European giants?? They won it twice in 25 years, with the largest budget in football. GPC would have been sacked at a real 'European giant' with that record

To be fair he doesn’t know his team history of being a cup team prior to Fergie and basically an average team chasing the dream like every other club.

I've just called in at Clarkes , shoe shop by the way and not Frank's, and behind me at the counter is a fellah wearing a top with a Rag crest. I couldn't resist! Not very good last night, I sez, Oh, the anguish, the despondency and sheer bewilderment were too much to verbalise anything sensible, but the woman on the other side of the counter womanning the till sez she's a season ticket holder at that place, and the two of them have a conversation about how useless Lumpaku is and how they both have little time for FakeRon these days. When there was a break in the general bile for all things Raggy, I said that I wouldn't mention how my team got on. Oh, yer one of those stupid blues, are yer, she sez. Not so stupid these days, I say!!
