Atmosphere

You are correct of course, but some of them could have been at the cinema or theatre. Completely detached from the performance waiting for something to happen. Where I sit nothing from anyone until we scored, then some don’t even get off their seat! Then when we are losing nothing but moaning, when the team needed us more. I think we have lost the hunger let alone the players!

That’s a legitimate point that has been made many times before as has mine but do you think it reflects well on the club we all care about when the ground was a third full at the end of a close match?

It depends whether you view the fans as having any role in supporting the team, if so then a lot of people let the side down yesterday.

I agree with you both in a way. I don't actually get to many games nowadays unfortunately. I was a regular match-goer when we were shit instead :-)

However, when I do go I do find the atmosphere to be dreadful in general. I tend to end up in East level 3 and it can be deathly quiet up there and I'd go as far to say there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm from some.

I think as a fan base we are definitely at our best when our backs are up against the wall. Whether it’s typical city or we just haven’t become used to dealing with success I dont know.

It’s going to make me sound like a member of the song police, but I think one of the biggest reasons for people not singing is the choice of songs coming from the south stand.

1-0 yesterday and the first song I heard was about Edin Dzeko. To me that makes no sense. Barely anyone joined in with it either.

The loudest chants yesterday were the classic city songs. We love you city, blue moon, super city. Other then blue moon we have a lot of songs that you rarely hear sung from the south stand that people will join in with.

Super city, hey Jude, we love you city, blues go marching, city til I die - all songs that you rarely hear sung at home matches now. But when they are sung more people join in and most know the words. I’ve heard more about bloody Liverpool this season.

If we’d have made as much noise the whole of the second half as we did for the few mins after 2-3, I believe we’d’ve drawn or won that game. You could blame yesterday’s result on us as much as the players imo.

And if you’re gonna get ejected for throwing beer, try to clear your own fans ffs

Not aimed at you but there's been ample opportunity for fans to move over the years and get in the 'action' areas where they could perhaps have some input at what's sung or where it's easier to express yourselves without being frowned upon.

Strikes me we have a few differing types of fan .... Ranging from posh to the ones who just watch the away fans with varients of all types Inbetween, anyone in any group won't necessarily stay til the end.

The passion has gone if it was ever there as we know it from a big chunk of our fans.

I'll get slaughtered for this, but I think the team somewhat passed the atmosphere to death. Side to side, corrner to corner, with not much happening in the middle or inside the box. Don't think Jesus had a touch on.the 1st half. We've not played that way for a long time. We were a bit more direct in the 2nd half and the atmosphere improved. Not chants, but noise.

I think the SS and the singing section in general has died a death, bar the regular singers who are scattered all over the SS. Nobody else can really be arsed joining in. 110 and 111 can't be bothered bar the big games. The rest of the stadium is in a COMA for most of the match.

Off topic.

Did anyone notice the screens with the players holding up cards with the amount of corners we had won. Dear God!

No urgency.
No movement.
Too many players looked like been out on the lash.

Corner count is for Marathon Bet sponsorship.
Could try betting on sideways passes instead.

The atmosphere started suffering after season cards stopped being affordable to the average die-hard fan.

Doesn’t matter what game it is, what score it is, how much the team need us, people just fuck off from anything like 12 minutes left. Saturday 15:00 KO, where are these thousands of people going?

There was a point at about 81 minutes where I thought I’d missed an announcement saying a there was money being handed out on the concourse or something. Loads just stood up at once and fucked off.

That linkup with tinder.....the dirty, crafty little bastards

Don't think that's too relevant, I pay £380 halfway up the SS3 which is less that I paid years ago in SS1.

If you want to go it's a bit of a pain moving as cash was tight for me at the time but as an average die-hard fan it's just something to suck up to be there.

This is not true. Plenty of reasonable priced season tickets
Seasoncard prices increased every summer from the year we first won the title until Pep took over, and they've only been frozen once since. Numerous fans have stopped going because they can no longer afford it. The atmosphere was at its best during the 10/11 and 11/12 seasons because we were playing great football and average minimum wage workers could still afford to go. You can't just deny that increasing prices are a factor just because you can afford to go.

Nah,I'm on just slightly more than the minimum wage, and i still go and take my lad too,its whatever your priorities are,and first for me is city and probably always will be,for some its not alas.

That's great for you but, like everyone else who has responded to my original post, you've assumed that because you can afford to go others still can too. This isn't the case.

Lots of friends are priced out now. Mine in 216 went up by £50 a season for far too long.

yeah, its great for me because it is my one luxury in my life that I give to myself,I'm the same as most other people except,i dont run a car though ,never have,i dont smoke,i give other things up for our season cards in the ss3 which cost me £310 for me and £145 for my lad.

I don’t think it has any correlation to atmosphere whatsoever. Sorry but that’s my opinion.

Television doesn’t help. Pints in the pub with your friends or being at the match...

We've hardly had a full in yer face 90 min atmosphere. The only time I can remember an atmosphere being loud and constant for nigh on the match was v Hamburg. These days the matches are just a little tense until we get the fourth goal, and then it's shell shock that stuns as per yesterday! It's somewhat difficult to raise the atmosphere if yer mind is racing and trying to find an answer to the question "WTF is happening today?"
