Madeleine McCann

Think you’ve got me wrong on this. I’m far more on the fence with it all than you and others might think. I’ve stated on numerous occasions that I can’t see how they could’ve kept up this lie for so long. I also think it’s not inconceivable that the dog “evidence” could’ve been planted by the police.

For me, there’s so many different layers to all this which makes it such a fascinating - but sadly, tragic - case. The thing is, there are some very intelligent people on this forum who sit on either side of the debate. I prefer to keep an open mind to it all and I can see both sides.
Fair enough, I think it's just going to be one of those cases that's tragically never going to get solved. And as you say two lots of people with totally different opinions.

Kate has accepted that they shouldn't have left her alone and that she regrets that. I think that type of behaviour on holiday is (or rather was) more common than is widely appreciated.

They must accept some responsibility for what happened, as much as a parent driving their car carelessly and having an accident and killing their child is responsible. We all drive carelessly from time to time, even when our kids are in the car. Doesn't mean in those circumstances the parent isn't deserving of sympathy.

Back in the day at places like Butlins, parents would leave children sleeping in the room and advertise the fact! You could put a sign on the door that said there was a child sleeping inside. If a passerby heard a child crying in a room with this sign on the door then they'd report it to reception, and then a message would be put out over the PA for the parents to return to the room because the child had woken up.

It's pure common sense, leaving your kids alone to go get wasted in an unlocked apartment in a foreign country is a ridiculous, unnecessary amount of risk to take when you factor in the hotel had a night crèche for children.
Other children haven been abducted in far less riskier scenarios from their parents

I've been to a place very similar and it is completely normal behaviour by virtually everyone who stays there . You may or may not agree with it but it is absolutely plum normal behaviour at the holiday camps I've been to.

Well those people quite simply, are tossers

How could you leave your kids on their own in this type of messed up world? It smacks of a horrendous lack of care for your children
Maybe they disagree on how messed up the world is.It appears to be getting safer most of the time but the dangers are getting more widely broadcast.

I would suggest that they're idiots for taking the chance/gamble on their own children's welfare
Perceptions change with time.
When I grew up no one would have put a seat belt on a child in the back seat , the product didn't exist when it became available initially uptake was slow, but dangers to children in cars is probably several orders of magnitude higher than abduction by strangers.
Even now people smoke in hte same houses as children but cot death associated with smoking is far more common than abduction by strangers. We can castigate others for the risks they take but often other risks are higher.

Said the same a few pages back mate, Smoking in the car with kids in is just as a bigger cunts trick than the McCaans leaving their kids alone.

I feel like there's an awful lot of whataboutery here really.
Taking it back to basics: do you think leaving your 3 very young children on their own in an apartment with the door unlocked while going out for food and drink is a good idea?
