Why we will win the league!

Just like when we scored in the derby he'll probably fuck off home midway through not to be heard from for days.
What was all that about? Was he there just to a give a giddy scouser ramp up cheerleader element? But then things didn’t go that way. At the post match discussion they said that “Jamie Carragher would also be popping in”. They were clearly expecting him but didn’t know what he was up to!

Yes - I remember on my drive back from Newcastle, a scouser phoned-in on the radio to say if Liverpool beat Leicester tomorrow "which let's face it, we will" (his words), then he thought the bookies would throw in the towel forthwith and start paying out on a Liverpool title win.

We forget now how bleak things looked at the time, but it's amazing what 12 straight wins can do.

We also lost the league at the Emirates in 2012, do you remember? The Mario sent off match.

Dont know if anyone saw/remembers this but after Liverpool had beaten Spurs I think (could be one of the other close games though) Carragher shouted in his worst scouse accent. Liverpool. TOP OF THE LEAGUE!

Urrrgh still send shivers diwn my spine.

I'd love a gif of that. Well as long as we finish the job of course.

I've never understood that with UEFA why arent the Tuesday ties the following Tuesday and Wednesday ties on the following Wednesday, surely makes more sense to keep the spacing between the games the same for all teams
They have a rule that all clubs have to play an equal amount of games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

In the 90s and 00s, most countries had 2 broadcasters covering the champions league (like the UK did with ITV and Sky previously), so when that happened, UEFA wanted to share the biggest games between them (so they would pay more). One broadcaster had dibs on Tuesday games, one had dibs on Wednesday games. If ITV had Tuesday, Sky would be understandably pissed if Real v Barca was Tuesday both legs and AEK Athens v Bayer Leverkusen was Wednesday both times.

I think most of the biggest paying countries are all on one broadcaster now, so it shouldn't be as much of an issue as it was but it must still happen somewhere, and may happen in future so I don't see it changing.

Ah that makes sense I was trying to think of a sporting or logistical reasoning, of course it comes down to the size of the envelopes and TV.

I think it was after their win at Southampton. He clearly thought they'd passed a big test that day.

Scouse ****.

I wonder if Klopp will play Gomez at CB and kick Matip back to the bench for Newcastle. Arnold will surely come in at right back and with Keita out and Firmino fit it will likely be their usual 11. Would expect Wijnaldum to slot into the middle. They can't make more than a couple of changes. Oxlade is still unlikely to be in a position to start the game.

I wonder how last night has made them feel mentally. Physically they will be nackered. They had to work their socks off last night. But mentally will they feel hard done by and struggle to get up for the game on Saturday? I hope so.

It is one where I feel playing first would have been an advantage. If we won first they might throw in the towel. It would be another blow after last night. Instead there is the chance for them to try and get over last night by beating Newcastle. Klopp wont think they have a chance on Tuesday. They might pretend they will but he will be going all out for the league now. 3-1 would have been better. Gives them that hope and puts the return leg in their sights as a distraction on Saturday.

Come on Newcastle!

It depends more on Newcastle tbh. If they put up a fight (like Burnley did) the Dippers might struggle if they don't get ahead early. Cardiff held them for a long while but lacked any real forward momentum. Newcastle I think have more goals in them and might just be able to exploit tired dipper legs and minds. But as has been said many times before its down to us really. Two professional performances should be more than enough to claim six points and the title.

Just a thought but if we'd had to play a CL fixture this week could we have physically coped?

I wasn't exactly gutted we went out and considering the injury situation and the amount of football played recently the extra rest was probably needed
