Not good enough? when he plays more than 1 game he is great
The problem is pep doesn't trust him and continues to run walker into the ground which causes him to make mistakes. My guess is walker doesnt see any benefit to playing danilo and losing walkers pace on that right hand side. I think signing someone like cancelo is important because it means walker wont be playing every single game and it gives us something different to both walker and danilo on that right hand side effectively a massive attacking threat. Imagine if by some miracle we could get mendy fit and play him on the opposite side with sterling and mahrez or berny out wide think about the havoc they would cause the parked busses we go up against most of the time. Btw i like danilo just think we need something different on that right side to challenge walker and offer more attacking threat.

So when did you meet Pep ?

Does it? Both Walker and Danilo were widely regarded as two of the most attacking fullbacks around when at their previous clubs. pep chooses not to use them in that manner for multiple reasons but they’re not suddenly inherently defensive fullbacks.

Walker was regarded this way but i don't think hes quite good enough at it to be that at city. Danilo was not the best at this at real madrid he was mainly on the bench?

Pep’s not asked either of them to do it in a competitive game so I couldn’t say one way or the other whether they’d be good enough. you may be right, particularly with walker, but I don’t think Peps changed the way we play because of it or would change the way we attacked with cancelo in there.

He favours having one attacking fullback at most in a lopsided attack with others shifting over to create gaps and fill holes. He also likes the wingers to isolate their man and doesn’t want other people taking their space. I think if they were asked to be more attacking they would be more than capable of doing it, especially Danilo. Pep knew what he was getting when he choose them two, I think they’re playing exactly the way he wants them to play and any change in personnel wouldn’t see any significant change in how we play.

I think danilo is a superb squad player to have. Versatile, can play both full back positions, he's even played in the holding role but only sparingly mind. Be a shame to see him go, totally different player to walker and mendy but he's chipped in with the odd important goal on occasions. I'd keep him.

Well, he's not good enough to push Walker for a proper competition so they can share the workload based on evidence how much Walker has had to play, and besides not enough competition he's also had injury issues. There's enough concern there for us to look for alternatives.

If Danilo was as superb Madrid wouldn't have got rid of him for €27m asap. His form declined there pretty bad. He came in as someone to fill numbers and be a squad player who can play both left back and right back too. Clearly failed at left, and not played enough on right last season even when fit. If he stays it's fine long as he pushes himself to be more competitive else it's a risk carrying a player like that wanting out as things stand.

Show me the headlines of him wanting out? Has he actually been quoted as saying that?

Sam Lee has posted quite a bit about him moving on and wanting more first team football + a few others aside have said same. So unless they're lying and us coincidentally targeting Cancelo is a dud rumor then we've all been played.

Just can't see him going to juve and doing what he's doing with us over there.

That's been the main issue. Initially Inter wanted him but Conte coming in has changed that since he has different targets in mind. And Juve don't want him as part of Cancelo deal either (as of yet), so now we're stuck till Danilo has a a club wanting him and agreeing to pay what we value him at. If not then obviously, he will stay, but if the opportunity is there to upgrade during all this, then we shouldn't shy away imo
Eventually some club would want him.

He doesn't want to to juve with sarri there, he'll be playing right wing.

I don't get how we can't shift him he may not quite be good enough for us but surely teams must want a guy whos played for both real madrid and us. I also don't understand how madrid can shift players so easily but we cant.

He's in the category of player that is 90% good enough to be in an elite side. He'll never let you down and has an awesome set of skills, but isn't quite good enough to play in the first team.

In most aspects, he's better than Walker, but Walker's pace is huge for us in stopping counter attacks, so Danilo doesn't get a look in unless Walker is injured, fatigued or totally out of form.

Danilo faces the same dilemma at all other elite clubs, either he is happy hoovering up medals as a squad player or becomes a first teamer at a team that will finish 2-7th every season.

So far he's chosen medals at Madrid and City.

I hope we can get this deal sorted. Danilo is decent but obviously is selected when pep has to? Cancelo would be a huge upgrade on him and would play a lot more games

I think we would be more then happy if danilo stays to be honest he is a very good player the problem for him is walkers pace. We won't be starting both walker and cancelo and walker has just signed an extension can't see how we can keep both players happy.

I see him as crucial if Sane is to stay. Move Sane to the right with this lad over lapping down the wing and Sane cutting in. Raz on left with Mendy/Angeleno doing the same. Scary.....

Good post sums it up nicely. On what I have seen of the guy over the last two years he is more than adequate cover. If he stays for another season I would be far from concerned.
