Fully aware my opinion counts for absolutely nothing but my preferred options for “3rd choice” centre back would be:
  1. Keep Otamendi
  2. Aké £40m
  3. Maguire not for anything over £60m though

No. 3 is a no go. Leicester just rejected rags 70m bid.

I don't see why we can't keep Otamendi AND buy Ake.

It would allow us to cope with inevitable injuries as well as allow us to go 3 atb more often.

Not sure how true they are but there have been a few reports suggesting Otamendi would look to leave if we brought in another centre back due to lack of playing time.

Fair point - I’m also against shoehorning players into positions that aren’t their favoured position so I guess with 4 CBs we’d be less likely to see Dinho or Rodri (if he signs...) there and they would be allowed to stick to what we pay them for
 
I can remember a lot of blues wanting to sell Zinchenko, look how that turned out, so if the club think Nathan Ake is good enough so be it, he's certainly quick enough and good on the ball.
 
Mentioned in the Maguire thread I'd love us to go for Ake instead, He's a class act. Really hope there is truth in this one, He reads the game really well, Composed on the ball, Very quick, Good in the air, He ticks alot of boxes and would improve under Pep.

As you said Mings has found his level, Really good Championship player/Bottom half Premier League.

Ake on a completely different level.
 
He's absolutely rapid, which would probably mean we could replace Walker with Cancelo if/when needed.
 
Good player. Always wondered why CFC let him go.

It's a pity we wont take a gamble on our own young players. But it's high risk. If they are not ready, we could lose titles

He wouldn’t have developed at Chelsea and got the games he has at Bournemouth, similar to Angelino a buy back is a good way of letting them go and get experience and buy them back. Maybe without a ban they would be in for him now.
