Var debate 2019/20

But why does it need him looking at it pitch side? The guys in the room who are seeing all the angles on the screen have a better chance of getting it right, without players and fans in their face. So, why then did then get it wrong? Because they don't know the rules or have not understood them, or are they just fucking idiots? They say they are going to the letter of the law, well the letter of the law for this handball incident means it's a goal. The fact that numerous ex-professionals, commentators and even some refs have not highlighted this, is fucking frightening.
Im talking about the penalty shout, not the handball.

If the referee thought no penalty but the VAR officials did after watching it live and replays, then surely it comes down to being a “clear and fucking obvious” error, unless it’s City of course.
Thought in the West Ham game Mike Dean wasn't going to give the penalty, then got someone in his ear saying you'll look such a fucking idiot if you don't give that....

The real problem is still the standard of referring is still completely unacceptable. The biggest drop in recent times had been overseen by Mike Riley, who was shit himself, with no accountability or transparent process to improve decision making. The fact that two officials made an incorrect decision in regard to the penalty shout, speaks volumes and the fact that an number of referees have backed them, against virtually every ex pro asked has said it was nailed on - even Neville.
In years gone by the ref would be the culprit but human failings and no replay most could forgive, if it came to a decision between an ex pro and a ref we would side with the ref, now the FA and the refs have VAR and the rule book unfortunately for them so do the fans and ex pro`s, and there is no such thing as human failings with VAR

No because defenders have to have their arms away from the body so it's not handball whatever happens next,it's not a pen to the other side either, that's why the hanball rule is a nonsense, less goals and less pens, thought up by some fat **** behind a desk who has never played footy,i want to believe that because to think football men came up with this is just unbelievable to me

Quite, this has been posted about a dozen times.

I think you are absolutely correct sir, in the tottenham game the commentator said a few minuets earlier that this was England's best ref, he obviously believed he was untouchable unlike Dean

You mean like they did twice against City in one game on Saturday?

yep, but now we have a right to go mad at the officials because they have technology at there disposal - will never be perfect and still too many grey areas but over time you like to think it will get better.

Under the old system the ref and lino can blow/flag up for anything they wanted too - and we had to just accept that.

Swarbrick is a liar. Oliver not looking at Rodri and Lamela

Why does that say United?

It's looking pretty much the same. It will only change if the media go on the attack. They show no signs of wanting to do that.

They have already made their minds up who they want this year as their ‘darlings’.
There won’t be anything like the scrutiny we have. You all know who we mean. If it has to be won by ‘massaging the game’ is it really worth it??
We are our own worst enemy at the moment. If we had put away the sitters we had created, we probably wouldn’t even be talking about this.

I can see Guardiola using that to focus the players minds. Aguero will be sharper now he's playing, and if they're all annoyed, then Bournemouth this weekend could get messy.

I think you might be right about this. The players are not stupi and they'll be pretty annoyed with themselves for not not burying the spuds. I also think that Sergio might feel he's got a bit to prove having been pretty sluggish for parts of the game. I also think Pep knows the score with all this... medium term I think it might cause him to move on from City before we would like but short term I reckon he'll be getting into the players heads with the idea that we have to be merciless and get clear daylight in every game as we are likely to get fucked over at any opportunity.

Its as clear as day, we know it, they know it. Vinny said as much at the end of last season. Pep has said similar since.

If he is saying Oliver thought Rodri dived well it didnt look like that with oliver antics of finger to ear and a shoulder shrug.

Exactly, the clear signal from Oliver was that he hadn't seen anything and he hadn't been alerted to anything either. I wish the club would call out the clear contradiction from Swarbrick (who was a shit ref, BTW!).

Still refusing to show incidents under review unlike every other sport as they "have to protect officials".

Protect them form what exactly?

Do they have so little faith in their abilities?

Or is it a case of protecting them from any scrutiny and allowing them to come to any decision they want?

Weird coincidence that the only three people (seemingly in the entire universe) who didn't think that was a penalty on Saturday are Michael Oliver (Match Official), Graham Scott (VAR Assistant) and Neil Swarbrick (Head of VAR). I've not seen or heard anyone else, regardless of club bias, say it wasn't nailed on.
