Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Two bits of interest with an oblique reference to MCFC / Manchester:

1) High St survey: https://www.pwc.co.uk/press-room/pr...penings-slump-to-lowest-levels-on-record.html

2) Government reverses moves targeting foreign students' residential status https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49655719. That will have a massive effect on Manchester Universities who were booming on the back of income and fees from overseas students. Overseas companies and wealthy families can pay £30,000 pa to study here (three times what British students pay) which is why a huge proportion of Manchester's student population are foreign students. A significant element of Manchester's rebuilding is down to foreign students enabling the expansion of the University's engineering faculty (off Oxford Rd), and many of the City centre skyscrapers are student-focused. That may sound odd to you given the traditional view of students being skint, and living in bed-sits, and they still do, but if you're studying medicine for 7 years in Manchester and you're an overseas student, you're paying £23,000 a year in tuition fees (10,000 foreign students >>> generates £200m per annum in fees alone).

This is what I believe has fuelled Manchester's construction boom.

This news probably comes too late for Man Met's sport's campus, as I reckon funding would have been a factor. The tap has just been turned on again.

You have to say that currently our stadium is an adequate one for an upper PL club but nowhere near what you would expect of one that is seeking to become the best club side in Europe (& hence the world).

It was constructed on a relative shoestring and the only major change since we moved in, the South Stand expansion, is hardly a major statement. I moved into SS3 & I like it compared to the Family Stand and East Level 3 where I sat previously but the finish on the concourse is as basic as you can get. It appears that any plans for the stadium have been put very firmly on the back burner and what we currently have will be as good as it gets for many years yet.

I can't even access my carrier's 4G signal in the stadium when I'm over, never mind the WiFi. But hey we're getting a KFC at "Eastlands" (wherever they locate it), so it's all good.

That’s because most sports grounds have signal dampeners reduce bomb threats.

Is that true? Explains why my iPad never plays Netflix during the game.

Hahahahaha. Just gone through the latest series of Top Boy on Netflix.

I tend to get the internet best (at half time) when I’ve previously been hooked up to the O2 Wi-fi and then it connects automatically, eventually

what are the rules on real seating??

notice that wolves and spurs seem to already have it.

My seat is real, or at least I thought so.

But now I think of it, taken over by a rich owner, League titles, world class players, Pep...

Fuck.

I'm not really here am I ?

Swales it is when I wake up then 'sigh'.
