Var debate 2019/20

I come back to the comparison with how rugby union var is handled - intelligent, honest officials, giving decisions in the open with the logic explained, nothing about clear and obvious. We get officials who are thick, dishonest, with the reviews behind closed doors, and the only clear and obvious thing is the stench of corruption, arrogance and incompetence

If only football was dealt with in the same way. RL and RU are the guiding lights imo .

Clear and transparent .

The fact is VAR is hidden none of us fans being at home or away games know what the ref is being told, so when the decision is given we all accept it, without being given an explanation.
Today at the rugby world cup when the ref Owens wanted to check plays everyone could hear what he wants and the TMO gives an answer, we all see it and hear it.
The thing is football has to be transparent with VAR otherwise it will be seen as cheating to an agenda. As paying fans we should hear how these decisions are made, as they hid away never to be seen.

That's it in a nutshell BG.. It is wide open to manipulation. Not seen the Spuds goal but heard it came off Ali's arm but the goal was still given. We had 2 handball decisions both against Spuds and both went against us.. That alone tells you VAR is not being implemented uniformly... therefore it's bent!

Football could definitely learn a lot from rugby - if it wasn't too arrogant to listen. In the England game, the Aussies scored a late consolation try. The French referee asked to see a couple of passes in the build up, and the VAR said both passes were good, and to give the try. The referee totally ignored his opinion, correctly pointed out that one of the passes was clearly forward, with the reciever in front of the thrower, and he disallowed the try.

No sentiment, no sticking up for his assistant, just make sure the correct decision is reached. The integrity of rugby refereeing is so far ahead of its football equivalent.

Utopia

It's a total fucking sham in it's introduction and operation , and is only being " used " as we in the PL were out of step with other countries .

the PL and FA clearly do not want it, and you can make what ever of their reasons , and so the " VAR decisions " are not going to go against their PiGMOL cronies out on the pitch.

the system and its operatives have zero credibility , and are badly affecting the game .

Correct!! any touch on a scouser in the pen box referee will blow up for a penalty goes to var just for a token gesture and NEVER EVER be overturned while we get players decapitated in the box referee waves play on goes to Var and doesn't get overturned.

In the World Cup quarter final between England and Australia today, near the end Austraila scored a try that was reviewed to see if there was a forward pass. The VAR team of two (it was an Aussie accent that delivered the verdict) said to stick with the original decision of a try as it wasn't clear whether the pass was forward. The on-field French referee, on seeing the replay for the first time, disagreed immediately because he said it was 'clearly forward', which it was - without a single fucking doubt.

Now the original VAR decision was utterly fucking stupid and/or biased (Aussie accent although it could have been Kiwi), but at least the on-field ref had the integrity to call it as it obviously was. He didn't just nod his head and follow the blatant error, he undermined the VAR team because the their decision warranted dismissing.

Referees in this country don't possess a single shred of integrity or have a fraction of the professionalism that the French referee showed today.

Thing with those penalty shouts today that werent given by the referee there is no point whatsoever to go to var they will not be overturned! So we still relying on referees to actually blow his whistle for a penalty to get a penalty!

Watch Kevs reaction, he knew as soon as Rag Taylor didn't give it that it would not be overturned, the players no what is going on, it is a total farce.

Yes but the decision is not hidden, we heard it on the TV in the ground, well done the ref. Today Alty asks is that a pen and Oliver replies don't be soft ;-)
For the record this aint Football v Rugby it's about two systems and I know which is better.

I fucking swear I hadn't read your post before I typed mine.

Surely if all the angles available to VAR show it’s a penalty then it has to be a clear and obvious error by the ref given he only has one angle and no slow motion. Why therefore is this not being done and it’s obvious that the ref on the field isn’t actually in charge of the game. If there was ever a situation where the ref should have gone to the monitor it was today on KDB

Simply?

Because they dont want to.

Never been a more obvious pen than today, ... ....Rodri's included !

The problem is they are being asked to criticise their own and they wont because they know its themselves on the pitch next week .

The police being allowed to police themselves......

Bent? Corrupt?

At the start of the season everyone said give VAR time...

Time is up !!
