Caroline Flack - rest in peace

Time for me to move on from this thread as I havent got anything further to contribute. We will just have to agree to dissagree. For me few things are sadder than someone taking their own life. Having experienced the enormous pain and emptyness that a suicide brings to the rest of the family, even decades later, perhaps I look at things slightly differently than most folk.

I've been there myself with a family member, you are right that when you go through an experience like this it does give you a perspective that other may not have.

I think the criticism of the CPS is way off the mark on this incident. However, they do IMO like to make an example out of people in the public eye for crimes that are currently a popular talking point.

The real issue is how unforgiving society has become and how judgemental people are on social media.

It seems that in this day an age people are guilty until proven innocent and the moment a story hits the press it’s open season.

People need to let the trial actually happen before passing judgements on people.

well said, I’ve taken a lot of stick on here for defending certain celebs when I think the abuse has gone too far, I know for many they think their opinion is only on a footie forum so that’s ok, it’s not - everything you put into words on any sort of social platform has consequences- If there’s any sort of light out of this tragedy it’s that many might think a bit more before they’re going to say something hurtful.

What is the difference between a celebrity and a politician? As one gets more abuse than the other and its deemed as fair game?

Your average celeb doesn't have lots of people shifting through stuff said so they never see it and they don't have paparreze(sp) following them around, you are fair game only if you do something wrong imo not if you pop out for milk with no make up on etc,the celeb mags and papers rely on tittletattle and they go for the easiest way to get it,if you are a presenter, singer, actress being in the public eye is the downside, the whole thing has gone to far and leverson recs have been in the bin a long time

No-one deserves to be afraid of being crushed by the media

I'm not talking about regulations though. I'm talking about what this whole thread is based upon and all the current hash tags #BeKind

It seems politicians are fair game, the abuse they can receive on online forums such as this one, social media and even in the street is toxic. Yet everyone is lamenting poor Caroline Flack because of the abuse she has received online for alledge things she has done.

Footballers as well are fair game it seems. It's ok to sing Bobby Charlton is a peadophile yet don't dare criticise someone for being a little chubby.

You cannot be choosy of who to #BeKind too, the whole world is full of hypocrites.

Mental problems have never been worse, why do you think prince harry has given up his royal life,he has done nothig wrong but the media have known for a long time that he is suffering and went after him and his wife anyway, celebs don't have any protection,it's just them.#BeKind is to try and get people to think before they hurl abuse or victimise anyone in the public eye or regulat folk via media and social media,of course it won't work witout the magazines, papers and twitter going out of business,it's here to stay now

Anyone who gets this at their place of work or in the street,in their homes via social media, the kids at school, work anywhere do not deserve to be hounded to the point of suicide, the world never used to be this nasty

not by me it doesn’t, politicians get beyond evil abuse chucked at them, especially Theresa May, Abbot and Corbyn in recent years - fortunately most politicians can stay away from social media and seem better equipped with dealing with abuse.

either way, celebs, politicians, sports players, they’re all human and don’t deserve constant vitriol

I think the nastiness has always been there but in a different form. Celebrities could live in blissful ignorance, believing that the public loved them, oblivious to the fact that many were taking the piss out of them in conversations in pubs etc.

Tragic for any person to take their own life at 40. No one is perfect and regardless of what she may have done the press intrusion clearly must have contributed to the pressure she was under. The Times Obituary is one of the most unpleasant I can remember and The Sun are still posting a disproportionate amount of articles about her to any other media outlet. No lessons learned or contrition there.

RE the CPS, they are there to be independent, to protect victims. A victim may not wish to progress a claim but that's not to say its right, which is the call they have to make. If they've acted inappropriately I'm sure they'll be held to account but on the face of it their prosecution seemed valid.

If there's anything to come of this it may be that some people hold off on negativity towards others on social media, but in modern culture everyone has a platform and if you're in the public eye you're seemingly fair game for criticism, fair or not. I'm sure fame and fortune have their plus points, but I'm really not sure how anyone copes with that level of scrutiny especially in today's instant, 24/7 culture.

The real sad part is that depressingly few people are going to change for the better because of this. Before the dust even settles we'll still have the same people being horrible to people they don't like on social media.

As upsetting as this whole episode has turned out to be, anyone who can learn from this and cut out the abusive shit online deserves to be considered as a silver lining. I think we all have the potential to improve; it's within all of our grasps.

The anonymity of the internet allows people to say and do things they would never dream of saying or doing in person. Then, there are those that have grown up with no social filter. This is “modern” life and how some people have grown up....say anything, do anything, nobody can do anything to you...anything goes. Then, there are those who think it’s cool to be part of the mob, piling on because they feel secure in the group think, where they must be right because “look what everyone else is saying!”

It is sad that words can do such terrible things to the fragile human psyche, but as we have seen from the verbal abuse ads...words can hit as hard as a fist.

I don’t know this woman, but it appears she is part of the highly destructive and exploitive zeitgeist that is the scourge of (especially British) TV. It is an arena full of fickle quicksand, where one day you’re loved and the next, after one wrong word, you’re despised and targeted.

I hope she found the peace she was looking for by her actions, but I’m sure she has caused pain for her loved ones. Suicide is rarely an answer, especially for the young and healthy, but when living in the public eye, some fragile egos simply cannot take the inevitable nasty turn that appears part of the territory.

May she Rest In Peace.

I was getting a drink in the Coop on the way to work this morning and noticed The Sun had “Cruel Prosecution Service”.

I actually became angry about something that has no impact on my life, I found it that outrageous.

The fucking low life vermin they are, take the piss.

The inquest opens tomorow, she has been in therapy since the arrest, stopped drinking and by all accounts(her mates) doing well until her last couple of days, getting the court letter,on face value, was the difference

the press seem to have the freedom to cause misery to whoever they want to pick on......we know what dan roan said after the helicopter crash, the press don't care who they hurt

and the fact that Roan got away scot free with those comments is a sad indictment of British standards as a whole. Bernado tweets a supposedly racist comment meant purely as a joke and the country turned on him. Roan mocked a person hours after his tragic death and absolutely nothing happened. As an aside I am surprised Leicester fans allowed it to fade away so easily.

I didn't know about that until your post and now I'm angry about it too! Of course its someone else's fault, so they blame the CPS and become CF's biggest champions. They really are vile bastards.
